Got a call today from someone saying they were Vodafone and that I'd supposedly switched my number recently. Thing is, I've never even been a Vodafone customer! Definitely a scam.

This number rang me on my mobile saying it was from Vodafone. I got a recorded warning about a PIN change request for my account and it told me to press 1 if I hadn’t asked for this, or just hang up. The thing is, I don’t even have a Vodafone account at all! When I tried to ring back the number, it said it wasn’t valid. Pretty convinced this is a scam, and they’re faking the caller ID to look legit.

Seriously, calling back unknown numbers is a terrible idea. It could be some sort of wangiri scam or something similar. These scammers use heaps of random fake numbers, and sometimes by chance, the number might be genuine and belong to someone completely innocent, which just causes them hassle. Your phone number might even end up flagged on sites like this or get reported to '7726'. Or worse, you might end up chatting to an actual criminal. Honestly, only idiots ring back unknown numbers. It’s almost certainly a scam.
