I reached out to UW via email and they got back to me saying something like, “Thanks for contacting us and letting us know. That number isn’t from us at all. In future, if we ever require meter readings, we’ll notify you by email.” So yeah, that 0345 number where they tell you to call in your meter readings is definitely dodgy and a scam.

Got a call from 03456122121 about my electric meter reading, which I’d already submitted ages ago. Definitely felt like a scam to me.

We were out when a caller from ‘Lowry Beck Services Limited’ left a card requesting we get in touch to give meter readings. However, I had already submitted mine through the energy supplier’s website a few days earlier, so it feels a bit dodgy to me. Personally, I’d be wary and not bother answering these.

Got a couple of texts with different tinyurl[###] links asking for meter readings. Using tinyurl like that just screams dodgy, tryna hide where you're really sending people. The texts said they were from SHELLENERGY, no spaces or anything, just stuck together. Then the next day, a missed call turned up. When I checked the voicemail, it sounded like it was from some Lewidex(?) Services, gave a number 03456122121 to call back, plus a reference number that has nothing to do with my actual energy provider. Definitely seems sketchy to me, so I'm steering well clear.

Got a call from this number around 7pm saying they were from my energy company and wanted me to give a meter reading. Felt off straight away, and I’m convinced it’s a scam. Feels like my actual energy firm might’ve leaked my info to dodgy scammers. Proper disappointing.

Got a missed call earlier and left a voicemail - sounds like one of those meter reading calls asking me to ring back on 0345 612 2121 and mention ref 171721899 (which isn’t my account number by the way!). I gave my details online just a few weeks back. I logged into my account and it shows the readings aren’t meant till around mid January.

So, someone claiming to be from Lowri Beck, working for Ecotricity, popped a card through my letterbox asking me to call a number with my electricity meter reading. Thing is, my electricity provider isn’t Ecotricity at all! Bit suspicious if you ask me, but weirdly enough, the meter number they left was spot on. I send my readings every month online, so I’m not sure why anyone would bother dropping a note at my door. Seems a bit fishy to me.

Someone came by to check my meter while I was busy on a zoom call, so I didn’t open the door. Later, I found a note pushed through my letterbox with a phone number to ring, or a website to enter the reading. It seemed a bit fishy to me because I usually just log into my electricity supplier’s site and submit my reading there. Feels like that number might be one of those expensive premium lines trying to catch you out. I’m not taking any chances and will just stick to sending my meter readings straight to my energy provider online.

Got a weird voicemail about some supposed debt and asking for meter readings. I had a quick look at my supplier paperwork and everything’s sorted - readings sent in and bills paid. Feels like a scam to me, maybe trying to trick folk into changing their provider or something more dodgy. I reckon it could catch out people who aren’t too sure what’s going on.

Completely harmless! They only want your meter readings, not your bank info. Honestly, what harm could a company possibly do with just those numbers? Some folks get way too paranoid.
