Have a look at the 2 posts rated blue about 9 or 10 below here. They might help you avoid hassle. Just remember, theres a big difference between an actual scam number and one that gets spoofed. This’s a legit First Direct number but like all banks it can be spoofed by crooks trying to sneak into your account. Fake scam numbers tend to be random computer made UK landlines. Spoofing means real business numbers get cloned by bad people. Most calls from business numbers are trustworthy, but not all of them. Stay careful!

If you ring your bank to confirm whether a call is legitimate (like mentioned below), the people in the call centre should be able to tell if the bank is actually trying to get hold of you and will either put you through to the right team or sort it out for you. Bear in mind, the call centre might not know every single number the bank uses. Even if they say it’s a scam attempt, that doesn’t always mean the number itself is dodgy. Spoofing real business numbers is a massive issue for companies and their clients - banks especially!

I got in touch with FD (through a secure channel) to check if this number was theirs because I got a voice message in broken Indian-English saying it was from FD. The person at FD told me to block the number. Also, watch out because I received a text that looked similar to past FD balance alerts, warning me that a 0787*** mobile would be calling about FD Fraud. This seemed strange, so I sent the number to FD’s secure team and they said they’ve never seen it before.

I can confirm this is a scam pretending to be from First Direct, the bank told me so. Don’t trust any green text messages, they’re obviously from the fraudsters. Always check with your bank using the official number they give you.

Got a call from First Direct Mortgage team, seemed legit to me. Don't get why some folks reckon it's a scam? They were chatting about mortgage late payments, so definitely don't ignore calls from that number, it'd be daft.

They said they were from First Direct, but why were they not ringing from the usual 03456 100 100 number? I asked for some kind of ID or proof and they just ended the call on me.

Got a call from a woman claiming she was from 'fraud'. I asked her which fraud? She just kept saying fraud. So I pressed, which company fraud dept? Again, just fraud. Then I asked her straight, what exactly do you want? And she just hung up?? If this really was First Direct, they seriously need to sort out their team. I’ve always thought their phone support was ace, but this was a big let down.

First direct rang me about a problem with my closed account. They offered me the chance to ring them back, which felt legit. They didn’t ask for any banking info on the call and have sent me an email with all the details we talked about.
