I was expecting a call from First Direct, so it wasn’t a surprise when they got in touch. They made sure they had the right person by checking my full name and running me through their security checks first. I’d actually spoken to the same advisor before, after ringing them on a number I knew was genuine. If you ever get an unplanned call like that, best thing is to just end it and ring the number on your bank card yourself. Real banks won’t mind you doing that at all.

Got a ring from 0345 610 0264 while I was actually chatting with First Direct online. They had mentioned they wouldn’t be ringing me, so this phone call seemed pretty dodgy. Feels like some callers might be faking that number, so I’d be careful and maybe consider it a scam.

This number rang me claiming to be from First Direct. I’m always wary of unexpected calls, so I hung up straight away and rang the bank myself to check. In this case, it was a legit call. I’ve labelled it as ‘Safe’ now, but I’d still suggest anyone receiving a call like this to phone the bank using the number on the back of their card to be sure.

This was a call from First Direct's fraud department. A few days back, I reported something suspicious and my phone flagged their call as fraud. I didn’t pick up straight away once I saw the number was probably First Direct. To be on the safe side, you can ring them back but dial the extension 100100 instead - that’s the number they told me to use in the voicemail message.

Someone rang me saying they were from M&S bank, but when I asked them to confirm their identity, the line just cut off. Oddly enough, I had dealt with M&S bank about a questionable credit card transaction just a couple of days before, so I wasn't totally sure at first. When I called the number back, an automated message came on claiming it was 1st Direct and told me to ring the number on my card. After checking with M&S bank directly, they said they have no connection with 1st Direct, so I’m convinced it was a scam.

This was a strange experience. The number looked like a real FD one, but the person on the line was a very polished woman who asked for me by name. Still, I was suspicious because banks don’t usually call out of the blue. She didn't reveal much except to double check my name, then the call suddenly ended. I decided to call FD Bank back, but on a separate number, and they told me nobody from their side had called me. Just a heads up, scammers can mask their numbers to make it seem like they're calling from a legit company like FD.

To be sure, I phoned First Direct on my landline using their official contact and asked if they'd recently tried to reach me. This is actually the real First Direct Fraud or Digital Tech Team, especially if you’ve recently had problems or spoke to their support and were expecting a callback. They helped me get back into my account and fix a problem with texts not coming through. Have a look at the 2 posts rated blue about 9 or 10 below here. They might help you avoid hassle. Just remember, theres a big difference between an actual scam number and one that gets spoofed. This’s a legit First Direct number but like all banks it can be spoofed by crooks trying to sneak into your account. Fake scam numbers tend to be random computer made UK landlines. Spoofing means real business numbers get cloned by bad people. Most calls from business numbers are trustworthy, but not all of them. Stay careful!

If you ring your bank to confirm whether a call is legitimate (like mentioned below), the people in the call centre should be able to tell if the bank is actually trying to get hold of you and will either put you through to the right team or sort it out for you. Bear in mind, the call centre might not know every single number the bank uses. Even if they say it’s a scam attempt, that doesn’t always mean the number itself is dodgy. Spoofing real business numbers is a massive issue for companies and their clients - banks especially!

I can confirm this is a scam pretending to be from First Direct, the bank told me so. Don’t trust any green text messages, they’re obviously from the fraudsters. Always check with your bank using the official number they give you.

Got a call from First Direct Mortgage team, seemed legit to me. Don't get why some folks reckon it's a scam? They were chatting about mortgage late payments, so definitely don't ignore calls from that number, it'd be daft.

Pretty sure it’s a con, anyone saying it’s real around here is probably in on it.

They said they were from First Direct, but why were they not ringing from the usual 03456 100 100 number? I asked for some kind of ID or proof and they just ended the call on me.

Got a call from a woman claiming she was from 'fraud'. I asked her which fraud? She just kept saying fraud. So I pressed, which company fraud dept? Again, just fraud. Then I asked her straight, what exactly do you want? And she just hung up?? If this really was First Direct, they seriously need to sort out their team. I’ve always thought their phone support was ace, but this was a big let down.

Cant really hear what the caller said in the voicemail, sounded like they were bored or something. They only rang twice so im guessing its a scam.

First direct rang me about a problem with my closed account. They offered me the chance to ring them back, which felt legit. They didn’t ask for any banking info on the call and have sent me an email with all the details we talked about.

Spoke to First Direct, and yes, it’s legit - I checked quickly through their banking app chat. But I’m pretty let down they’ve moved their customer service to India. I always liked their UK call centres, and the hassle I had today with the new setup was really frustrating.

Over the past few days, I've had 6 calls from this and some alike numbers saying they're from first direct. I always notice the '44' at the start and think it’s probably a scam. Still, if I think the call might be real, I always ring back. Every time, they say they're from the fraud department.

First Direct called me, it was the bereavement dept, really genuine but they wanted to sort out my late dad’s credit card debt.

I got a call from someone saying they were from HSBC about checking my account. At first, I thought it was a scam, so I headed down to my local branch to make sure. Turns out, I’ve been putting in quite a bit of cash lately and they just wanted to confirm where it was from. If you’re unsure about a call like this, it’s safest to pop into your branch or use the online chat on the app to double check.

The price of calls is no more than calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02). Call charges are influenced by the time of the day, and most providers provide call packages that allow calls free of charge at specific times of the day. The cost of calls from mobiles vary depending on the chosen calling plan. Generally, these calls are incorporated in free call packages.
