Somebody said they were from HSBC and actually knew my name, even said they’d give me my date of birth. But when I asked what department they were calling from so I could ring back, they wouldn’t say and just said they’d note down that I didn’t want to talk to them. Proper dodgy if you ask me.

Said they were calling from "John Lewis" and could be connected to the John Lewis credit card (HSBC). But they wouldn’t say which department or share any details unless I passed some security checks. Even if this is a genuine number, I’d say don’t deal with them straight away. Best to hang up and ring using a number you know is official, like the one on your credit card.

So I received this letter supposedly from HSBC, but when I looked up the number they gave online, it didn’t match at all. Plus, the letter itself looked a bit off - like the print quality or something was strange. Years ago I had a debt with HSBC, but I’m sure they sold it on ages ago. That’s why I’m convinced this letter is a scam. I told them straight up that I wasn’t buying it, and they got a bit lost for words. All they kept pushing was for me to verify my name, DOB and address. I refused to give any info!

finally picked up after getting really annoyed! It was some life insurance quote or comparison firm. As soon as I told them my current payment, they just hung up - how rude! If they are legit, they really need to stop badgering folk with calls. But if it’s just some scammer, everyone needs to report them to put an end to this!

They said they were some sort of advisory panel checking up on Aviva policies, but I told them I’m not sharing any details on the phone. Then they just said something like ‘well, if you wanna keep overpaying for your life insurance, that’s up to you’.
