But then the bloke kept putting me on hold a lot, which made me suspicious. He wanted me to link my phone to my account and said it’d only take a couple minutes. I told him I’d rather sort it out in person at the branch. I’ve now reported the attempted scam to both Santander and the police. It seemed convincing ‘cause I got texts from them and even had notifications pop up on my banking app. They asked me to make my phone the main way to access my account, which made me a bit suspicious. Then he told me to answer questions by pressing the buttons on my phone keypad. When I said I’d rather call Santander myself, he just said alright. I asked for his name and he suddenly hung up. The call lasted over half an hour. During that time, he somehow pushed through a payment request of over £650 but told me not to hit any buttons and said he’d cancel it himself.
