It's happening again now.

Got a call from someone saying they were from the Co-op Bank, mentioning an issue with one of my accounts. The bloke had a northern accent but couldn't prove who he was, saying it was a security thing. When I asked him to confirm my address, he said he couldn’t for the same security reasons. Then he wanted the last four digits of my security code, which I refused to give. The guy obviously didn’t know much about me other than my name. I told him he didn’t sound legit at all and ended the call. This was on my landline by the way.

If you call this number, it takes you to what sounds like an automated Coop Bank system with options like press 1, 2, or 3, and it really seems legit. But trust me, it’s got nothing to do with Coop Bank - it’s a scam. I rang up Coop Bank myself and they told me they never tried to reach me. Stick to 159 if you want to safely get through to your bank.

This number rang me twice on my mobile. When I called back the second time, they said they wanted to discuss something about my account with the Coop Bank. I asked for details but they just said it was about security checks. I told them I was tied up, so they said they'd ring me later and we set a time for later in the week. I even mentioned they'd better ring my landline as the mobile signal’s rubbish at my place, but they insisted on calling the number they already had on record. The call then ended. I've since blocked this number.

Got a call from a woman claiming to be from The Cooperative Bank, asking for my security info. Luckily, before I could even say no, she said sorry and mentioned she saw I’d already been to my branch to discuss some changes, so she didn’t mean to bother me. I reckon she was with the credit card team. Still, no way I’d ever hand over my security details on a call.

It was the co-op calling. I looked into my account and saw I was behind on my credit card payment. I had just missed last month’s payment for the first time. I rang the bank using the number from their official site. They connected me to their financial support team who helped me arrange a direct debit so this won’t happen again. They even waived the late fee since it was a one-off mistake.

This is a real Co-Op Bank number. However, scammers have faked all the phone numbers for banks and building societies. If your bank phones you, listen carefully to what they say, hang up, make sure the line’s really dead, then ring your bank back on the number on your card. Don’t just hang up on these calls, it could be something legit.

This number has tried ringing me about 5 times in the past day, but it only rings a few times then stops. No voicemail or texts left. I finally called back and got the Co-op bank - same woman’s voice I hear when I call them normally, giving me a choice of 3 options. It sounded pretty official. I didn’t select any options and instead phoned the Co-op directly using the number saved in my phone. Co-op bank. They've rung me twice in the last couple of days even though I’m not a Co-op customer. The first person asked for my security info. Since I didn’t recognise the number, I said I’d check online first (their site did look legit). When I called back, they said they couldn’t find any records for me. I tried calling again today after I missed another call from them, but they had no idea why I’d been contacted. Honestly, it wouldn’t be hard for Co-op to keep a log of the numbers they call so they can quickly check why a number was dialled. It’s not complicated.

On Saturday, I received a call from a rather convincing gentleman claiming to be from the Co-Op bank. It struck me as highly unusual for the bank to reach out over the phone since they typically correspond through letters. He proceeded to request some security information, but I declined to provide any. He mentioned that I could ring the bank back using a verified number if I had any doubts about the authenticity of his call. I decided to hang up instead of making a return call, but I made a note of the number. Come Monday, I stopped by the bank in person, and they confirmed that no one from the Co-Op had attempted to contact me at any time, let alone on Saturday. They reassured me that I had acted wisely by not disclosing any personal security details.

You've reached the Co-operative Bank. This number is listed on their official site, particularly in the financial assistance area, aimed at individuals facing arrears through their debt management team. They do not leave voicemail messages, as the timing between connecting to the voice message and ending the call doesn’t allow for it. Expect them to request two digits from your four-digit security code; they take precautions due to instances of individuals attempting to fraudulently represent actual customers, especially considering mobile phones can be sold on.

I've received several calls from this number, yet not a single voicemail has come through. If they're genuinely from Co-op Bank and have something important to discuss, wouldn’t it make sense for them to drop a message? It seems a bit odd to be calling without leaving any details.

I reckon this is a scam. The very first thing they wanted was for me to confirm my first line of address. Security checks are meant to verify the caller’s identity, not mine. They obviously know who they’re ringing, but I’ve no clue who they are, so I’m pretty sure these are fraudsters who somehow got my number and now want to access more of my personal info.

Yeah, I reckon it’s the co-op calling but all my accounts are fine so I’m not gonna pick up, probably one of those annoying sales calls or whatever!

I’m in the Financial Support team at Co Op Bank, so this call is legit. We just ask for 2 digits from your 4 digit passcode, and the chat is usually about missed payments on your loan, credit card, or if your account is sort of overdrawn.

I got a legit call from the Co-op. I messaged the Co-op (Smile) bank, where I hold a few accounts, and they helped me spot a couple of problems that really needed sorting out.

Got a call saying they were from Coop Bank, rang up my parents' place on a number I haven’t touched in like 15 years. They claimed that was the number on record for me, which is rubbish 'cause I opened a savings account just last year using MY own mobile, not my parents’. They wanted me to give security info, so I just hung up. They keep ringing nonstop. What a load of rubbish. They say they got my mobile, but never ring that. They have my address too, but don’t bother sending anything. Proper dodgy if you ask me.

Got a call claiming to be from the cooperative bank asking me to verify my security info. I didn't share anything since they didn't explain why. They said I could ring the bank back as the call reason would be logged on my account. When I contacted my bank, they hadn't got any record of that call. Seems like they were trying to fish for my info. DON'T HAND OVER YOUR DETAILS, always call the bank using the number on your card instead.

Loads of folks reckon it's Co op bank calling but I’ve never had an account there. Not once. Feels a bit dodgy to me.

They asked for my info and got really impatient when I said I couldn’t recall my details. Why on earth would someone from a bank be asking for that? Feeling quite worried about it, I’m planning to call co.op tomorrow. Be careful folks, I did end up giving some info but I’m on alert now... ??

I popped into the Co-op bank after getting that call, and they told me that this number doesn’t belong to them at all.

I can't believe it, but they’ve just called me 17 times back-to-back after I hung up the first call! This sort of behaviour should really be against the law!

This number belongs to the Co-op Bank fraud team. Whenever I take out my daily withdrawal limit, they keep ringing me multiple times a day, claiming there’s suspicious activity on my account. They ask for all my banking details and quiz me with various security questions, even though they call on my landline and I’ve already confirmed the withdrawals. They also insist on knowing what the cash is for and threaten to lock my account if I don’t comply. I should mention I have plenty of money in my account, have never gone into overdraft, and always enter my PIN correctly.

I received a rather puzzling text that read, "Your account needs urgent attention.
For additional assistance, feel free to ring 03456036311."
To be honest, I felt a bit hesitant to pick up the phone due to the risk of scams!

I’ve been using Payplan, a debt help firm, for 3 years now and still got about 4 years to go. Despite this, the bank keeps ringing me all the time. I blocked their number and told them my payments have been on point for 3 years, so they should just leave me alone and stop hassling me.

Received calls from this number for three consecutive days. I decided to block it. Curiosity got the better of me, so I rang back using withheld number to uncover who's been pestering me. Turns out, it's the Co-operative Bank.

Got a call from this number earlier, asking for my account details. I said I couldn’t talk. They then gave me a different number to ring back on, which made me a bit wary. I quickly phoned Co-op bank myself since I have an account there, and they said the call was legit because I’d missed a payment. Still, with all the scams out there, it’s not the best way to get in touch with customers.
