They said they were from O2, but when I called O2 on 202 from my phone, they couldn’t confirm if the number was actually theirs, just said it might be one of their partners. The message said "as soon as possible" which made it seem like there was an urgent issue with my account. If this was a marketing ploy, using scare tactics to make you ring back feels borderline harassing to me. If I discover that O2 are letting messages like this go out with "O2 UK" showing as the sender, I’m definitely reporting it to Ofcom.

This seems legit. I got a message from this number and, just to be sure, I phoned O2 at the 202 number. The person I spoke to actually called the number back and said it was definitely O2 customer service for upgrades and stuff.
