When I questioned it, he said my recent readings were all mixed up, which didn’t sound right at all! Told him I’d just submit the readings online and he was fine with that. Sounded polite and professional, but still didn’t trust it.

Got two calls from this number today, one on my mobile and another on my home phone. Didn’t pick up either, so they probably ended up on voicemail. Tried calling back and got a recorded message saying ‘this number can’t take incoming calls’. Honestly, that’s a pretty frustrating way to handle things. If it is E.ON, I will definitely be complaining.

Some bloke with a heavy foreign accent saying they’re from EON or summat, wanted to talk to (name given). I kept quiet about whether that’s right or what energy company we use, then he asked for a meter reading. I told him I couldn’t really catch what he said and if he’s from my real energy firm, just send me a letter or email, he must have my info anyway. There’s loads of dodgy sales calls these days, so no way I’m handing out details!

I got a call from Eon saying my gas meter needed replacing. They left a voicemail asking me to call them back on 0333 202 4560. When I called, the person who left the message was busy in a meeting but promised to return my call. They rang back from 0345 301 5315. Everyone I dealt with was really nice and polite, asking all the proper security questions. They sorted out the upgrade for a date that suited me, and the installation firm has already emailed to confirm the appointment.

Someone called but didn’t leave a voicemail. My wife phoned back at 7:15pm and a lady asked for our meter reading. My wife replied she wasn’t about to go out in the dark and rain. I’d already emailed the meter reading two weeks prior and paid the bill based on that. It’s not a scam, just really poor organisation. I’ll be contacting them in the morning! Safe enough, but very sloppy.

Got an unexpected call from EON about arranging a time to swap our meter. I've told them loads of times where to stick their “smart meters”. First time I set it up two years back, took a day off work, waited all day, and nobody showed. When I kicked off about it, they said they’d give me £30 compensation. Still never got that money. A middle-aged woman with a Northern English accent rang my personal mobile, claiming to be from EON about installing a Smart Meter. I told her I wasn’t interested right now, as I’d read on sites like Money Saving Expert[###] that the latest meters lock you into one supplier, and I like to keep my options open by comparing providers yearly.
