This is Ovo SSE. They're chasing me over £414 which I don’t believe I owe, but it’s tough to figure it out since, like others have mentioned, you can’t seem to log in properly online. I use their app which I *can* access, but their customer service is awful - honestly, they come off as rude and unhelpful, and I don’t trust them one bit.

This number isn’t a scam, it’s properly connected to SSE/OVO. You should ALWAYS ring back using the number listed on your own account details because scammers might be faking this number to try and get your bank info or other personal stuff they could sell to criminals. I’ve seen some comments here saying that’s already happening. So be careful! But don’t just block calls saying you owe money - do your due diligence and check your payments with your bank records. I know OVO’s having some trouble merging with the SSE business at the moment.

How is anyone supposed to figure this out? SSE’s pay-as-you-go site doesn’t work anymore, so I set up an OVO account, and now both of them say my email’s no good. Absolutely rubbish.

I reckon it was SSE that I was dealing with, judging by the thick accent on the line, which was about as clear as mud. The call cut out after just a few minutes, reminiscent of my previous attempts to get through to them. It struck me as rather peculiar when they asked for Mr. Andrew - that's me, by the way - especially coming from your typical, bewildered call centre agent based who-knows-where. Honestly, SSE’s customer service is hands down the most disappointing experience I've had this century.

I can confirm that this number genuinely belongs to SSE, which has now been acquired by OVO Energy. The call centre responsible for this number is located in South Africa. While it is indeed the customer service line, I must say my encounters with them have been terribly frustrating. It's not a scam by any means, but their level of service leaves a lot to be desired. There was a rather awkward pause before she asked for my name, to which I responded in the affirmative. Then, she proceeded to state that the call was for training and monitoring purposes, but her next request was quite concerning-she sought my bank details. Naturally, I questioned why she needed that information, to which she abruptly disconnected the call. Quite bizarre, I must say!

They claimed to be from SSE but it was hard to follow. Then they started asking for my name, address and date of birth, which I didn’t give. I asked what the call was about and they said it was regarding my electricity bill, the paper bill they send me monthly. I told them I don’t get any statements and ended the call.

In my view, this isn’t legit since the real SSE/OVO customer service numbers are 03450779710 and 03450262658, not the one that called me. If it was a proper utility call, they’d have your full name for sure.

Not sure who tried ringing me from this number. It rang, but I didn’t answer since the number they dialled is private and I never share it with anyone. I’m with SSE/OVO, but I’ve never given them my phone number, so this has to be just some random spam or sales call.

Im pretty sure this is really SSE calling, but I’m not a fan of them asking tons of questions that surely they already have answers for. Also, and I hope this doesn’t sound rude, but why do they have people working there who seem to struggle with English, especially when the issue isn’t straightforward? My partner can barely make out what they’re saying half the time, and I find it tricky myself sometimes.

It really is SSE. They rang me back after I emailed them. I asked them to prove who they were by giving me info about my account first, and they knew the name of another person on the account plus the amount of my electricity DD. So this number is definitely legit.

NO ISSUES WITH THIS NUMBER. IT BELONGS TO SSE/OVO, A MAJOR SCOTTISH POWER COMPANY PROVIDING GAS AND ELECTRICITY ACROSS THE UK. THEIR CALL CENTRES ARE BASED IN SOUTH AFRICA, WHICH EXPLAINS THE SOMEWHAT RUDE AND BLUNT ATTITUDE YOU MIGHT GET ON THE PHONE. BUT OVERALL, THEY’RE LEGITIMATE, JUST A BIT TACTLESS WITH THEIR SUPERIOR TONE. IF YOU CAN DEAL WITH THE RUDE BIT, EVERYTHING ELSE SHOULD BE OK. NOT A SCAM, NOT DANGEROUS, AND THEY WON’T BOTHER YOU UNLESS YOU HAVE OUTSTANDING BILLS!

I got a voicemail from sse / ovo, but the lady on the message spoke such bad English I couldn’t really understand what she was saying. The only word that stuck out was ‘priority’. I even sent a letter to their Scottish head office asking to join their priority service scheme, but I’ve not had any reply even after weeks. So ovo, I never called back, but honestly, you need to improve your customer service quickly. The staff speak way too fast and almost no English, which makes things really difficult.

A chap named Moohamud from "SSE" rang me up, asking me to verify my personal information. I’ve got a pay-as-you-go electricity setup, and I just settled my gas bill yesterday. Honestly, I’ve never received a call from SSE in the four years I've been a customer. It seems like the influx of new arrivals in the country has led to an uptick in scam calls-cheers to Boris and Sturgeon for that!

SSE has been phoning me for months, insisting I'm the one liable for the bills at my workplace (which I definitely am not). Whenever I say they should contact our Finance Department instead, they get annoyed and start pushing me to pay up. I'm proper fed up of repeating myself.

I always get wary of calls where they barely give you any info but start asking who you are and say they need to verify your identity. Usually means the convo goes nowhere and they never tell you what they want. The caller just hung up after that pointless chat. Honestly, good riddance. Plus, if they truly had my details, why not just send a letter instead? Remember this rule folks: "DON'T EVER GIVE OUT INFO TO SOMEONE WHO SAYS THEY NEED TO 'CHECK' YOUR DETAILS."

They said they were from SSE and told me I owed them money. I ended up giving them my details, but when I mentioned that my benefits covered the debt, they just hung up straight away. I had a feeling it was dodgy after the call ended like that, and after seeing other comments here, it looks like I was spot on. If you’re on benefits like me, they seem to lose interest pretty quick since they probably assume you can’t pay.
