I keep receiving calls from this number, but when I answer, there's complete silence on the other end. Then it just cuts out. Quite odd, really!

Received a call that got suddenly disconnected. Tried ringing them again, but there was no response, so I ended up hanging up!

I received a call from a chap with a rather odd accent, claiming to be from SSE. He mentioned the postcode of my rental flat and said he was simply checking that everything was in order. Now, I've got to say, this struck me as rather suspicious, as SSE and SWALEC typically send a letter if there’s any issue to discuss. He then asked for my full name and date of birth - that's when I really got uneasy. I told him there was no way I was going to disclose any personal details over the phone, and I needed to get back to my cuppa. I promptly hung up. It's rather concerning where these companies might obtain our personal info, don't you think?

I've been bombarded by 3 to 5 phone calls daily over the past week. I initially ignored a few but ended up answering a couple of them. Each time, they're inquiring about someone else's details, which is quite peculiar. I even asked them to take my name off their list, and lo and behold, just 20 minutes later, my phone rang again. It’s utterly ridiculous!

Isn’t it odd how some individuals behave? All they’re after is a simple meter reading, just to ensure that they can bill you accurately. It’s quite baffling, really.

Absolutely fantastic resource! I had a look on the Phone-scam platform, and lo and behold, the number didn’t appear there. I tend to avoid responding to any random phone calls, especially from salespeople or unknown numbers. If it were something crucial, like the bank or the police, I'm quite sure they would’ve left a voicemail.
As for smart meters, I have zero interest in that either. It feels like undue pressure to me, and I find it quite irritating. So frankly, they can jog on!

I've been receiving calls from this number repeatedly. They keep asking for me, and it seems to coincide with my husband's days off. It’s rather puzzling, as they claim I've requested them to get in touch. It's quite absurd, to be honest.

Oh, what a bother! It seems we really, really don’t need any new smartphones around here. They're just a right pain!

I've recently handed over my name and date of birth because they insisted it was crucial to obtain the meter. Though I mentioned I wasn't prepared to proceed just yet, I'm now bombarded with countless cards emphasising the necessity of having one. Honestly, I'm getting rather exasperated with the whole situation.

On a bank holiday Monday, they had the audacity to ring me at a quarter past nine! Honestly, considering how sparingly we Brits get bank holidays compared to other nations, you'd think they'd let us relish our precious days off in peace. Just give us a break, will you?

I’ve been receiving incessant calls from this number affiliated with SSE. They rang us five times over a mere two days! When we picked up, they were quite deceitful, insisting twice that having a smart meter installed was compulsory.

It’s clear these were sales pitches, which strikes me as outrageous especially since we’re on the TPS list to avoid such nuisance calls.

Earlier today, I received a phone call purporting to be from SSE, who were keen to schedule a visit to swap out my current meter for one of their so-called “Smart” meters. The caller proceeded to ask for my full name and then tried to pry into other personal details. At this point, I made it clear that I was not comfortable sharing any more information. The individual on the other end, instead of being accommodating, seemed rather put out and mentioned quite curtly that if I was interested in their meter, I ought to arrange an appointment online. Their tone was far from polite or pleasant. It’s drilled into us that sharing personal information over the phone with strangers is a no-go, so why is SSE still pursuing this line of questioning? It feels entirely inappropriate. Moreover, it’s a bit rich to label them as Smart meters when they can’t even be used with different suppliers should I decide to switch! Quite ironic, indeed!

I received an automated voicemail regarding smart meters, but unfortunately, my voicemail system only managed to capture part of it. Nevertheless, it was evident that it was just another sales pitch for something unnecessary. I've gone ahead and blocked the number.

As you peruse these remarks concerning persistent phone calls and the promotion of smart meters, it’s worth keeping in mind that SSE is merely attempting to align itself with the UK Government's directive to implement smart meters by 2020. For additional context, you can check this link: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/smart-meters-how-they-work. Though I’m not here to champion SSE's telephonic outreach, it seems some contributors could benefit from adopting a touch more humility in their perspectives.

I've reached my wits' end with SSE bombarding me with phone calls daily; it feels like pure harassment at this stage! Since my job necessitates keeping my phone on silent, I've yet to pick up any of their calls. Nevertheless, I've lodged a formal complaint with the Telephone Preference Service regarding their relentless pestering. They will be addressing the issue with SSE on my behalf. Just a reminder: if you're signed up with the TPS, it's against the law for them to ring you for marketing purposes.

I completely understand that those calls regarding smart meters can be rather bothersome. However, it’s important to recognise that SSE isn't the one deciding to put these meters in place; it’s actually a directive from the UK Government compelling energy suppliers to roll them out. If you’re feeling frustrated with these unsolicited calls, perhaps it would be more constructive to direct your concerns towards your local MP. After all, if you’re keen on seeing a shift in government policy, that’s the route to take!

I received three calls yesterday, and there have been previous attempts as well. I have no interest in acquiring a smart meter; if I do decide to get one, it will be on my own terms after I’ve thoroughly investigated which supplier suits my requirements best. Conversations with mates who do have smart meters revealed that every time you switch suppliers, they insist on installing a new meter, meaning there's no universal model. This seems utterly nonsensical, particularly given our current emphasis on energy conservation. A pal of mine is left with a smart meter that’s now obsolete unless they revert back to their original supplier, which would likely have outdated technology by then. I’m keen to see how this situation progresses, but it appears this scheme primarily benefits the suppliers, as they won’t need to hire meter readers anymore. Surely that will lead to job losses for many!

I've been overseas and I keep receiving calls from this number. Any idea who it could be?

SSE have been on the phone again, trying to badger us into getting a new smart meter installed... Absolutely NOT! I'm not keen in the least! For anyone still pondering the decision, allow me to share a few reasons I’m firmly against these gadgets: Firstly, these smart meters transmit your energy consumption data wirelessly to their servers. There's a genuine risk that this information could be intercepted, accessed, or even modified by cybercriminals down the line. Just think about it: if hackers, or even SSE themselves, can pinpoint when you’re not using electricity, it tips them off that you might be out and about - perfect timing for a burglary. And don't even get me started on the potential for your billing to be messed with in a malicious act. Moreover, numerous reports indicate that many of the new smart meters aren’t properly installed, increasing the risk of fires. This is largely due to energy companies racing to roll out these devices and hastily training numerous new installation staff on the job. As for the supposed advantages of having a smart meter, I find them utterly pointless. I’m well aware of the energy consumption of my appliances; it’s clearly labelled on them! I'm already making concerted efforts to minimise my energy use. Being aware of the cost every minute will do nothing but add to my worries, rather than help me save even more.

What an utter waste of time! These so-called smart meters aren't particularly clever at all. Honestly, it’s as if they’ve missed the memo on how to actually be useful. Really, caller, you'd be better off investing your energy in something more productive-like figuring out how to lower those bills!

I receive a barrage of irritating calls every single day. I suspect they're coming from SSE Power, who seem intent on peddling smart meters. The thing is, I'm not even a customer of theirs, and I've already got a smart meter installed! It's getting quite tiresome, to say the least.

I was behind the wheel when this call came through, so I couldn’t pick up. It rang on my old mobile that I use as a backup, so I decided to let it go to voicemail and didn’t bother calling back. I had a hunch it might be one of those pesky nuisance calls.

Honestly, I've been inundated with calls and endless junk post regarding smart meters. It’s just baffling - I’ve clearly stated my disinterest multiple times, yet they keep trying to lure me in. What’s the deal with that? What benefits do they reap from persistently pursuing reluctant customers like me?

I received a call from this energy company earlier today. If you encounter them, simply state that you're not interested. The caller seemed to be an Asian woman who was clearly following a script. It’s evident they’re instructed to keep the dialogue flowing. Just respond with a courteous “no, thank you” and hang up. While it may seem off-putting to us, remember these individuals are just doing their job, even if it appears somewhat distasteful. Being both assertive and polite is the best approach. Don’t let it stress you out; you’re always in charge of the conversation. Easy peasy!

I'm now on the receiving end of their calls. Quite unfortunate, as I'm anxiously awaiting some test results from the hospital, which has added to my stress levels. 😟 They attempted to reach me twice yesterday and once again this morning. Thankfully, I've got a handy app on my phone that automatically filters out these intrusive calls, so they just pop up in my missed call notifications. After investigating who these bothersome individuals are, I’m opting to block them permanently. Additionally, I've decided to switch my energy provider from SSE for good.

I’ve had a couple of calls from this number, both concerning a supposed meter replacement at my residence. Each time they’ve insisted on obtaining my postal address and account details. When I questioned the necessity of my account number, they informed me it was essential for them to access my records prior to coordinating a date for the meter swap. It struck me as rather odd that when I requested a formal letter about the meter change, their response was that they couldn’t provide one without having my account specifics. This raises some red flags for me, as I remember receiving a prior letter that included a date, along with a contact number for rearranging the appointment-none of which involved any request for my address or account numbers. I’m left wondering if this could be some sort of scam.

I've received multiple calls from a number that purports to be SSE, attempting to convince me to arrange a smart meter installation. The irony is that I've already had a smart meter installed! Each time I inform them of this, they assure me that they won't ring again, yet here we are. I've now taken the step of blocking their number, but I have no doubt they'll find a way to get in touch once more, likely using a different number. It's quite frustrating, to say the least!

I received a call from this number earlier, but I didn't pick up due to not having it stored in my contacts. It turns out it's SSE contacting me about the installation of a smart meter, which I've already refused. I really can't express how unwelcome the call was, particularly as I was right in the throes of my shower! I share the sentiments of others here; it seems rather poor form on SSE's part, especially given their usually good service, not to leave a voicemail. I imagine they avoid that to cut costs, as it might incur an extra charge for them.

Received a call today from this number. I generally don’t pick up calls from unknown sources, so I decided to investigate here. Apparently, it’s SSE. A few weeks back, I submitted a contact form on their website regarding a smart meter, so I’m completely fine with them getting in touch. What a pity they didn’t leave a message or introduce themselves! I’ve now saved the number in my contacts under ‘smart meter’, so I’ll be ready to answer next time. Like I mentioned, it’s a real shame they didn’t say who they were; I might have actually picked up!

I received a phone call about having a smart meter installed, but the caller didn’t provide their name, nor did they mention SSE or Southern Electric. They just gave me the number 0345 072 4281. After a lengthy conversation with the Smart Section at SSE’s call centre, they managed to confirm not only the exact timing of the call I received, which matched the timestamp of the message, but also that the number did indeed belong to SSE. To be honest, SSE has been quite commendable in terms of customer service compared to other utility providers I engage with, and being based in the UK contributes to that positive experience! It’ll be intriguing to see if their procedures evolve in response to this ‘anonymous’ call practice. I hope this sheds some light for anyone who might be unsure. If you're sceptical, feel free to look up an official SSE number on their website; there's a dedicated line specifically for inquiries related to smart meters.
