This number rang us twice today, supposedly from SSE. The first call felt like an honest error. I explained that the name and address they mentioned didn’t match our phone number. I've been receiving daily calls from this number for quite a few days now, but I haven't had the courage to answer. Lately, I've been inundated with scam calls-many of which I foolishly picked up-and I really regret it! I've started jotting down a list of numbers to avoid. SSE really should be paying attention to what folks are saying here, coz they've messed up big time. They’ve stopped giving the warm homes discount to those over 65, which is just wrong. I’m defo switching to a different supplier that still offers that discount to the elderly. SSE’s decision to cut costs by outsourcing their call centre to the Philippines and letting go of their UK staff has backfired. As a result, I’m done with them after all these years. Honestly, the whole energy sector is a joke and I’d much rather see it run by the government instead of these private companies.

Got a call on my landline yesterday but no message left on the answerphone. Then just now my mobile rang but it popped up saying it might be a scam, so I didn’t pick up. I’m with SSE and they sent me a text saying they aren’t sending meter readers round, and to use their website instead. I never click on dodgy links anyway. Funny thing is, I was out shopping on Friday and as I got home this guy from SSE showed up at my door to read the meter. I showed him the text and he told me they’re trying to cut down on jobs for people. He was driving an official SSE van too.

This might actually be a legit SSE number, but I’d suggest putting your meter reading in through their real website, just to be on the safe side.

Not really sure how this scam operates, but loads of people have mentioned scammers from overseas using real utility firm numbers to fake their calls. It's all to make you believe they're legit. The number one rule for staying secure nowadays is to never share any details with an unsolicited caller, even if you reckon you know who it is. Don’t even say your name. If needed, ring the company back on a number you trust from your own files. Just make sure your line is free before making that call.

they asked for a meter reading but I have smart meters, so no need. then they started talking about some website where you can enter readings easily. I told them mine are automatic though. I just gave up after that, tried calling again but no luck getting through.

Got 2 calls from SSE asking for a meter reading, but I already put it in online anyway. They even tried pushing their website on me, which is odd since I had to use it to submit the reading in the first place. Bit of a bother, really.

I wasn’t feeling this call at all, so I just hung up straight away. Normally, I only get letters through the post from whoever this might be. Whenever I’ve spoken to anyone there before, it’s always been a Scottish or Northumbrian accent, but this one sounded more like an Asian woman talking. Felt a bit off to me.

Got a call from 0345 0719 573 asking if I’d given a meter reading to SSE recently, like in the last 10 days. I told them SSE should have that info already if it was done. Then, they just cut me off! I looked it up and found out the number belongs to an SSE call centre, but this call felt really dodgy and wasn’t actually from SSE.

I received two calls from this number on an emergency line, which is just not on. You'd think the person behind it would know it’s illegal, but nope, here we are again with people ignoring the rules. Messing about with emergency numbers can be deadly. It's so disrespectful and such a waste of time, especially when they don’t even answer after ringing. Definitely adding this one to my blocked contacts.

I picked up the phone but there was silence on the other end, so I reckon it might be SSE calling. Like others have pointed out, I think they’re after a meter reading. I usually submit mine online anyway. Seems like, like a lot of big firms, their departments just don’t talk to each other properly. Anyway, I just blocked the number!

I just saw I had a missed call from this number but I've already handed in my meter readings and checked my bills online. My electricity is all sorted and my gas account is actually in credit, so I don’t get why they’d be ringing me. Seems a bit pointless really.

I got a call from SSE about my meter readings. It’s definitely a real number - I saw them share it in a tweet on SSE’s official Twitter page. So, if you get a call from that number, it’s legit.

Got a call today from SSE and I was ready for it. Explained I did the meter reading back in May like they asked in their email, and the bill came through on the 20th, which I paid on the 21st. I’m not sure if this one’s legit or a scam - I’ve sent them a few meter readings via email over the past month (three in total). Looked the number up on Google and it says it’s from SSE, but loads of folks are saying it’s dodgy and might be a scam, so I’m wary of picking up! Last year I got quite a few ‘spoofed’ calls, so I got a call blocker now, but this one still got through somehow.

This number keeps getting blocked automatically by my phone since it flags it as suspicious. They’ve called me a few times over the last two weeks. Once I did pick up, but the caller just stayed silent, so I can’t tell if it’s really SSE or just some scam. I’ve unblocked it for now, but if they ring again, straight back to blocked. Also, I submit my meter readings online, so there’s no need for them to be calling me repeatedly - feels like harassment to me.

Looks like everyone thinks this is SSE asking for meter readings - I got emails twice asking me to submit mine and I did both times! Then, when I got a third email, I called SSE and finally got through. They said meter readings are on hold because of the virus, I guess. I even had a missed call from them today, but my online account still doesn’t show any readings or bills. Seems like no matter how many readings we send, the bills are still estimated because the online system, call centre, and billing teams aren’t properly sharing info. Bit frustrating really!

I recently received a phone call from an individual sporting a pronounced Indian accent, purporting to be from SSE, seeking my consent for a meter reading. Straightaway, I was suspicious and declined. Generally speaking, these requests come via post, so I found it quite odd. He insisted that they were now conducting such inquiries over the phone due to the current situation, but that just didn’t sit right with me. It struck me as a potential scam aimed at fishing for my personal details. Best to stay cautious!

My phone rang and I didn’t get round to answering it, so I quickly looked up the number here. Good thing I didn’t pick up, because over the last couple of weeks I’ve already sent my meter readings to SSE through email. Don’t really understand why they’re trying to contact me by phone now, it seems a bit pointless.

At about 5:15 this arvo, I got a ring from 03450719573. Lucky for me, call blocking kicked in and stopped them before they could say anything. The caller didn’t even try to identify themselves. Hearing an Asian or Indian accent just makes me suspicious of these calls. If SSE need to send bills, they should just stick to estimated ones like they usually do.

03450719573 I thought this was a scam and reported it a few days back, also letting SSE know about it. Turns out, IT'S NOT A FRAUD SSE just got back to me by email, saying the calls come from their call centre in the Philippines (which explains the accent). They’re ringing customers to get meter readings since their usual meter readers can't visit in person at the moment. I mentioned to SSE that they really ought to have given customers a heads-up before starting these calls to prevent any misunderstandings.
