Somebody pretending to be from SSE rang me about setting up a smart meter appointment, left a number if I wanted to ask anything. Thing is, I’m not even with SSE and I’ve already had a smart meter fitted anyway. Looking at all these comments, either SSE’s totally bungling this or it’s dodgy nonsense.

Been gettin loads of messages from SSE sayin thanks for bookin a smart meter install… but I never asked for one… they even threatened to charge me £100 if I didn’t show up…. The messages kept comin right up till the last minute of this 'appointment' then suddenly a text popped up sayin it was cancelled for operational reasons and to ring to reschedule. Proper waste o time.

Received a call purportedly from SSE around midday on the 27th of August 2021, regarding an appointment for the installation of a smart meter. They suggested I ring back if I had any questions. The thing is, I never requested a smart meter installation, and after looking up similar experiences online, it seems this could very well be a fraudulent call!

I've noticed that the phone number listed at the top of Southern Electric's correspondence seems to direct calls abroad, specifically to operators based in the Philippines. What's the deal with that? 🤔 Why on earth aren’t there any customer service representatives based here in the UK? 🇬🇧 It certainly raises eyebrows! 🤔

this number, that SSE uses, rang our landline at 12:03 today, funny enough just like some of the calls we got last week around the same time. we've got Automatic Call Blocking turned on and their calls always get blocked straight away. if it was really important they should leave a message, but they never bother.

This number has rung us a couple of times in the past day - we’re with SSE and have an appointment arranged for a smart meter installation - but the calls didn’t come through because we have Automatic Call Blocking set up on our line. I did think it might be SSE calling, but since they didn’t leave a voicemail, I can’t say for sure what it was about. Considering our BT phone blocked the number, it seems likely it wasn’t a genuine call.

Got a recorded message from SSE about a smart meter install with a time listed but no date, plus a note to ring them to reschedule if needed. The weird bit is SSE isn’t even our provider, so it feels a bit dodgy.

Such a total waste of my time. Almost got caught out by this scam since our energy firm, Tonik, recently went under and we're now sorting a new supplier (definitely not SSE though). They kept me on the line for ages, asking for our address and stuff over and over. Luckily I didn’t give any bank info or anything. I'd seriously warn folks not to answer or call back. These scammers deserve some serious punishment.
