Most likely a call from VirginMedia's retention squad. They’re not up to any dodgy stuff. Companies usually put in the effort to keep their clients, and I just told them I won’t be renewing my deal. Getting a follow-up call is pretty normal in this case.

Yup, it was Virgin Media calling. I had ended my contract and switched over to BY. Then Virgin’s retention team rang me from this number and actually managed to offer me a deal that was £5 cheaper each month. I only gave them a few random letters from my security word, nothing more. It was definitely legit, and I’m really pleased I finally picked up after they called me the fourth time. I’d been ignoring the calls because of the stuff I read on here, but honestly, glad I didn’t this time.

This number isn't any more 'virgin' than me. Real Virgin numbers have been around for ages with loads of checks here - easily into the hundreds of thousands. If you get calls from this number, report it to Action Fraud. Just Google 'Action Fraud', find the 'police.uk' website, head to the reporting page and flag it as a phishing scam. You don’t need to sign up or anything. The more reports the police get, the better chance they have to do something about it.

Some bloke with an Asian accent answered and when I asked for my personal info, he couldn’t give much apart from the surname and address. I kept pressing him, but that was all he could say. I told him if I googled his number it’d probably say ‘scam’! Honestly, people need to call these muppets out and ask for loads of your details. If they can’t provide them, then it’s clear they don’t have your proper info like real companies you deal with would.

Makes total sense, right? There’s some seriously clever scams going about these days, and even those who are alert and pretty tech-savvy - basically the ones who are glued to their phones - have fallen for these sneaky tricks. Best advice: don’t say a word or agree to anything when you get a random call out of the blue!

Received a rather suspicious call today, inquiring about 'updates' to my Virgin Media account. They wanted to know the first line of my address, which I provided. Then they proceeded to ask for the initial character of my password, but I hesitated to share that. They promptly disconnected the call after that. The very next day after I moved my services from Virgin Media to a different provider, I received a peculiar call. A woman named 'Hazel' claimed she had to verify something regarding my account. However, she insisted on conducting security checks before revealing any details. I pressed her on what I might stand to gain from this whole exchange and pointed out that both Virgin and my new provider were already aware of the transition and had provided me with the relevant dates for the switchover. After that, she seemed to lose interest and ended the call. I can’t shake the feeling that this could’ve been an attempt to fish for my personal or financial information.
