I got in touch with South West Water about a water leak using 0800 230 0561. Later, I received a call from them with an update - they left me a voicemail. The callback came from the number 0344 346 2020.

I’m really not convinced this was actually from a water company. It’s odd they wanted me to ring them back instead of just leaving a message if it was something legit. I ended the call, but it rang me again shortly after, repeating the same thing about sending a text. From what I’ve found, this number was linked to water suppliers ages ago, so I’m fairly certain it’s some sort of dodgy scam and the number’s probably been handed over to someone else now.

The fact that the number ends in 2020 raises a bit of suspicion for me - feels like it might be a scam that dates back to that year. Given that it rang me not once but twice last night and again this morning, I certainly don't feel comfortable engaging with it.

Got a call from 0844 2843421 telling me i'd got an sms from 0344 3462020. I ended the call before the message finished since it felt a bit dodgy to me. i figured why risk it? no genuine firm would ring like that. when i checked the 0344 number here, it just showed up as a landline with nothing else. 8 other lookups and not a single comment, so i'd be cautious. best to be on the safe side.
