Got a call from someone claiming to be an insurance agent asking if I wanted to renew my policy. I was pretty sure my current cover doesn't expire for another few months though. Sound quality was terrible, I could barely make out the woman speaking. She asked me to verify some info, but I told her the line was so bad it was useless, and if she could send me everything by email instead. Then she wanted me to confirm my email, which felt odd since surely they’d already have that. Things got a bit confusing, and I was getting wary about it possibly being a scam, especially with the dodgy connection. The accent made me pause too - no offence intended, but it reminded me of the kind of calls you hear about from certain call centres overseas. My phone showed a +44 number, so probably genuinely UK-based, but I wasn’t taking any risks and ended the call. The whole thing left me a bit on edge.

I received a call from someone claiming to be Freedom Brokers Car Insurance. She asked for my name, address and email, supposedly for verification. When I refused to share more details without knowing the purpose of the call, she just chuckled. She mentioned my telematics gadget wasn’t transmitting data, asked what colour the indicator light showed, then abruptly hung up without saying if they'd be sending a replacement device. It felt strange to be cut off like that without any explanation about fixing the black box.
Honestly, I’m not convinced it was a legitimate call because of how it ended.
