These lot ring me up roughly every month saying they're handling my family members estate, but it’s a total con. Absolute scammers.

I tried ringing them first to sort out my late mum’s estate since she had an unpaid credit card, but they couldn’t pick up then because they were swamped. Eventually, they called me back. It’s a proper legal firm, not some scam. They weren’t pestering me one bit. After I gave them the details, they confirmed the credit card would be closed because my mum’s funds went towards her funeral costs. Just a heads up, nobody else in the family is responsible for paying off a credit card debt when a relative dies.

This is Phillips and Cohen. They handle debts after someone has died. They aren’t trying to get your cash - companies who were owed money inform them about deaths, then they call you to let you know it’s nothing to stress over. They don’t push for payment and actually tell you NOT to pay anything until the estate is sorted. They gave me some free and helpful info. To be honest though, their phone system is terrible and it’s quite hard to catch what they’re saying!

They leave messages, telling me to ring them back, but I don't bother. My husband, who I was married to for 65 years, passed away at Christmas and I'm still reeling from it. Its a place called Philips & Cohen, they handle debts for people who have passed away. They seem to get your information from different credit or loan firms connected to the deceased’s name. I informed them my wife’s estate had no money left, and they updated the accounts as closed. They were more helpful than the original companies who never bothered to answer my questions about how much was owed.

If you owe money, only speak directly with the person or company you owe it to. Be very clear about who you’re dealing with when it comes to the debt. If the person who owed the debt has passed away, remember that the estate can’t just pay up straight away, especially if probate is involved. Whatever you do, avoid getting involved with these lot - they’re absolute muppets.

Two voicemails popped up from this company recently. Phillips & Cohen got in touch with me, and the number on the letter matches this one. The letter clearly says they're waiting for me to contact them, so why are they calling? Phillips and Cohen just rang me up claiming they were reaching out for a client. They said they’d sent me a letter, which I never got. When I asked for more details, they wouldn’t say anything else and just wanted me to verify my address. This legal firm gave me such a bad vibe. They rang my carer about my mum's estate but never said who they were. I’ve no clue how they got hold of her number or even connected her to me. Honestly, it felt quite unsettling. My carer naively passed on my number to them, but oddly enough, they've never rung me directly. No proper law firm would behave like this, not revealing who they are in a situation like this. My advice? Avoid Phillips and Cohen Associates altogether.
