Got a message claiming to be from Aviva about setting up a direct debit for £295. I checked with my daughter and she warned me not to respond as it’s definitely a scam. I didn’t even bother replying. When will these dodgy messages ever end?

I just got a message saying a direct debit of £295.00 to AVIVA was arranged on 4th Feb 2025 from Nationwide. Thing is, I don’t even have an account with Nationwide, so if you don’t either you better ring 0333 335 6931 to sort it out. Thank goodness I’m not with that bank!

Earlier today, I got a message saying something like, ‘NATIONWIDE: A Direct Debit of £495 has been arranged for AVIVA starting 01/02/2025. If you didn’t do this, ring 0333 335 6931.’ I tried calling that number, but it just kept ringing with no answer. Then it struck me that it seemed fishy, so I looked up Nationwide’s official contact number on their website and gave them a ring. Turns out, this is definitely a scam! While I’m writing this, that dodgy number 0333 335 6931 keeps trying to call me back - I’m gonna block it for good. Be careful out there!
