I recently called what I thought was Hastings customer support, but when I searched the number online, loads of people said it was a scam. Bit confusing, right? I’ve let Hastings know about it, hoping they’ll update their info to clear things up. Their office is actually in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. Also, don't be surprised if the person answering has a foreign accent since they have a place in South Africa too. Just thought I’d share in case it helps anyone else.

I received a letter that claimed to be from Hastings Direct, saying they’d cancelled our car insurance policy. The funny thing is, we don’t even have an insurance policy with them! This is the real Hastings number. I phoned them to fix a mistake THEY made when I changed my car on the policy. It took ages to sort out, about 35 minutes on the phone, with loads of time sat on hold. It ended up costing me roughly 35p per minute, so WATCH OUT! Make sure THEY call YOU back, especially when it’s their error! I’ve sent them a complaint but, as usual, their arrogance means they haven’t even replied.

Sounds like a total scam to me. I barely ever use my phone to make calls and hardly ever share my number, yet someone claims there’s an allegation about a car accident. I barely drive at all, so it’s really unlikely anything like that happened. If there was a real issue, they can send me a letter. No way I’m calling back or answering - I usually just ignore my mobile anyway. They say they’re from Hastings but the accent was odd, so I’m pretty sure it’s a scam. Plus, the call came outside of working hours which is really unusual and kinda rude.
