I got a call from someone saying they were collecting money for the council. Funny thing is, I also got six letters all on the same day saying I owe different amounts - but they sent them to my new address, where I’m not even registered yet since I’m still officially at my girlfriend’s place. Definitely feels like a scam to me.

Wouldn’t be surprised if these lot are bigots of every kind - racist, sexist, anti-Muslim, ableist, and maybe even some dodgy polygamists mixed in. They’ve been claiming to be from the NHS, which is a right laugh. If going through this review hasn’t messed with your head, picking up this call definitely will.

My missus got a call she ignored, then a bit later she got a text with a link to download something from a firm calling itself Marston Holdings. We tried ringing Marstons to figure it out but ended up stuck in a voice menu with no chance to talk to anyone. Sounds dodgy to me, and judging by what folks here are saying, it’s definitely a SCAM. Best advice: never tap on links you get in texts from unknown numbers!

This morning I got a msg out of the blue telling me to either download some app or make a payment online, but they never said why. They claimed to be from Marston, but if you check Marston’s official site, they clearly state they don’t text customers. A couple hours later they rang me up too. Sounds dodgy to me, definitely some sort of scam so stay well clear.

* Scam warning * Got a call really late, around 8pm, from someone asking for the company director. I told them I was the owner and then they said it was about a debt I supposedly owed, which I don’t. They wanted me to answer some security questions to “verify” stuff. I said there was no way I’d share any info with a stranger on the phone, and then they threatened that extra charges would happen if I didn’t cooperate. It was clear straight away they were trying to scam me. I just told them to leave me alone nicely, but I bet some people might get tricked by this, so just watch out.

Every day I get loads of calls and texts from Marston Holdings. I replied once asking them to quit bothering me since I’m not the person they’re after. They’re looking for some guy, but I’m a woman! I’m considering going to the police to see what they suggest. Years ago, like 20 or so, I got calls for this bloke, so I guess my number was switched with his at some point. Even though I’ve blocked the number now, the calls somehow still get through to my cleaner! Any tips on what else I could try?

Earlier today my mum got a ring from some bloke with an English accent, saying she owed a lot more debt than she actually does. She told him our local council had already contacted them and the amount was actually much less. When she mentioned she hadn’t received any letter, he got quite rude. Even after she offered to pay in two instalments, he was insisting on payment straight away. Then he reluctantly agreed to the payment plan but still kept threatening some sort of action. He said he wasn’t trying to threaten her, but went on to say they’d take more steps even if she paid up.

I called them back, turned out to be Marston Holdings, a debt collection company. Honestly, they were quite courteous and just asked me to confirm my name, which didn't match the one they had on file. They didn’t ask for any other details, which I wouldn’t have given anyway. They promised to take my number off their list within 48 hours. Since I never received any debt documents at my house, they admitted they must have the wrong person.

Sounds like some kind of debt scam. I’ve never got a voicemail from this number, just nonstop calls. Honestly, it feels like they’re harassing people and trying to make money in a really dodgy way. They really ought to be looked into for stalking and fraud, at the very least. Bet there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes.

Got a text from 03333201828 from someone saying they were Marston. They asked me to call back, so I did, and at first it sounded legit with the greeting and all. But then the person who answered didn’t explain why I was meant to be calling and just kept asking for my personal details. Felt dodgy, so I ended the call. Then I phoned the official Marston number I found on their website. That system had options to choose from. When I finally spoke to someone, they had no clue who I was or why I’d called - no record of me at all. Definitely fishy.

This is a total SCAM, they tried to con us out of thousands. We spent over an hour on the phone with HMRC and they confirmed it's a fraud, they’ve never come across this company and the supposed debt doesn’t show up anywhere in their records - very clever trick, don’t get caught out. Always double-check whatever you’re told before handing over any money online. Numbers involved: 0300 200 3884, +44 333 320 1828

Someone rang me claiming to be from Marstons, and at first they seemed pretty legit. But then I spotted it was a scam. I checked their official website and the phone number was nothing like the one that called me. They apparently never ring you up out of the blue - they'd send a letter first and only send a bailiff if you ignore the fee or don’t explain your situation. If a Marstons rep phoned, it’d be the bailiff themselves, and it’d show up as a mobile number.

Got a call claiming to be from Marstons, they sounded proper convincing at first but soon realised it was a scam. I checked their official site and the contact number was completely different. Apparently they never call you directly; they’d send a letter first and only involve bailiffs if you ignore it. If anyone from Marstons did ring you, it would be the bailiff and it’d show as a mobile number on your phone.

I keep putting the number on block, but they just keep calling from another one. Managed to pick up once by mistake, and some woman was saying she urgently needed to talk to someone. Really pushy, I asked her to take my number off their list but she said she couldn’t because it’s the only contact they have, so they have to keep it. Isn’t that against privacy laws (GDPR)? Seems like they’re breaking the rules to me. Anyone know how to make them stop calling?

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Marstons recovery. The moment I asked why I never got any letter from them, she suddenly started threatening to send bailiffs to my place, even though she had no clue where I live lol.

I received a phone call from this particular number regarding an alleged outstanding council tax debt, even though I don't owe any. The person on the other end had a disrespectful and forceful attitude, not to mention the intimidations they made about seizing my valuable possessions and other assets.

Completely unprofessional, really rude and talking down to me, plus just plain annoying with all the hassle!

Some woman from a debt collector called saying she needed to verify my address before telling me how much I supposedly owe. I told her I wasn’t sharing my address over the phone and she just said I’d get a letter sent to me.

Had a call from 03333201828 yesterday. Didn’t say who they were or where they were calling from. Straight away they asked me for my address, which felt pretty off. Ended the call feeling quite uneasy.

Nothing but quiet when I answered.

Got a robotic voice just saying they’d called, totally pointless and a complete waste of my time.

I’ve never come across this before and I’m pretty sure I don’t owe money to anyone.

Sadly, it really was Marstons. I ended up paying the heartless lot £145 for a tiny £2 toll road fee. I tried asking for a callback because their lines were so busy. They’re clearly making a fortune off people like us.

Got a call from a Welsh lady wanting to speak to my son, but he doesn't live with me. She just said thanks for my time and then ended the call. Now I'm left wondering what that was all about? Could it be one of those scams some folks have talked about here? If I tried to ask her, I bet she wouldn't say who she really is or what the call was for.

So this woman rang me from this number, saying there's a really serious issue to talk about. Then she asked for my ID for verification because of data protection. I gave her a fake address and date of birth. She then told me I didn't pass the identity check and said they can't proceed without the right info. After that, she just hung up on me.

Got a call from 03333201828 claiming to be from the high court, demanding my details and saying it's urgent. I told them to send anything through the post or speak to my solicitor.

Got a call from them today, first time ever. A woman named Emily was trying to get me to confirm my address and birthday, saying it was for data protection. When I asked what it was about, she just said she couldn’t tell me the details. I asked what kind of company they were, and all she talked about were penalties and fines. I told her if it was something to do with the DVLA, then they already have my details and would contact me by letter or email. Honestly, trying to scare or trick people like this is such a pathetic way to earn a living.

They come off really aggressive and start threatening you with prison if you just want some proof or a bit of info. Proper rude, honestly, they shouldn’t be allowed to talk to customers like that. I’ve already paid loads but when I asked for a breakdown of charges, they flat out refused. After a few months, they popped up again asking for more cash with some sketchy reasons. Honestly, I reckon someone needs to look into them properly!!!

I, unfortunately, received a call from this particular number. In the background, I heard indistinct sounds reminiscent of a call center, yet the caller abruptly ended the call as soon as I answered with a greeting. Hence, I decided to take precautions and blocked the number.
