This time it was from someone named Sharon in Edinburgh, but the whole thing felt a bit dodgy-she asked for a £35 delivery fee to be paid via paysafecard. As I started reading through the email, it dawned on me that several words were missing, which sent alarm bells ringing in my head. I attempted to call the number from Edinburgh to clarify what a paysafecard actually was, but no one picked up. Much to my surprise, I later received a callback from a group of individuals with incredibly thick West African accents-likely from Nigeria-and that was the moment I realised it was a ruse. It’s disheartening to acknowledge the depths to which some people will sink; it’s as though the world is teeming with opportunistic and unscrupulous individuals.
