Oddly enough, she then inquired about how much I currently pay. If she genuinely represented Vodafone and had my number, wouldn’t you expect her to already know my payment details? It makes me wonder - are they really keen on reducing my fees? He kept going on about how they never ask for your info and mentioned some dodgy attempts to hack into my account. Then he said he’d send me a code to make sure it was really me. Sure enough, I got a message straight away. Looking back now, it feels like it was just a trick to get into my account rather than a legit verification. The text warned not to share the code, so I told him that. I then checked the number on this site and found loads of people had flagged it as a scam. When I told him I’d hang up and speak to Vodafone’s fraud department, he cut the call immediately. That’s when I realised it was probably a scam. He rattled off all the usual lines about how I shouldn’t share any personal information. He mentioned some dodgy attempts to access my account and insisted on securing it by sending a verification code to my phone. He claimed he’d sent the code right away, and indeed, it popped up on my screen. Looking back, it strikes me that it was more likely a ploy to gain access rather than a genuine security measure. The message itself cautioned against sharing it, so I pointed that out to him. After doing a bit of sleuthing on this number, I saw previous reports of similar scams. I then told him I wanted to hang up and consult with the fraud team, and that’s when he abruptly ended the call. At that point, I realised it was probably a scam attempt.
