My mum’s phone rang and when I picked up, the caller said, “Hello, is Mrs @@@ there?” I asked, “May I know who’s calling?” but then it went dead silent. I asked again who it was, no reply, then they just cut the call. Definitely sounded like a scam to me, they wouldn’t even say who they were.

This number has rang me twice, the latest time was just yesterday 16/03/17. They claimed my council tax band was wrong and that I was due £7,000 back. They mentioned I could hire a solicitor, but that would eat up all the funds. Then they offered to sort it for me for £85. The moment money came up, I ended the call. My husband got in touch with the police about it. If you want more details, you can look it up online - apparently the police know about this trick. According to them, these scammers take your cash and then vanish. The officer who took my husband’s call said the number isn’t even legit.

Got a call from someone who already knew my council tax band, told me it was overvalued and that he could lower it for me. He warned that if I went straight to the council, they'd send an assessor round which would cost me £300, and there was a chance the tax could go up or down. Yesterday, around 4:45 in the afternoon, I got a call from someone claiming to be from the VOA offering a council tax discount citing the "Council Tax Act 2006". Got a call from someone claiming they could lower my council tax band. Turns out, you can apply to have your band reviewed on your own through the council at no charge - no need to pay these companies. Just a heads up, your band might actually increase! I asked them who gave them my info because it felt like a breach of data protection rules. I never agreed for them to keep or use my details like that, so I told them to delete me from their list straight away.
