For a change, I actually went against my usual instinct and rang back the number I got from 1471. It connected me to a voicemail saying they're some kind of marketing firm and that they'd probably ring again sometime soon. If you wait a bit longer, they explain that you can opt out of getting more calls by pressing zero and entering your number.

There was loads of noise in the background when they called, right as I was setting my dinner on the table. The person spoke really fast with a strong Scottish accent and asked for me directly by name. I just cut to the chase and asked what they wanted. They started with some rubbish about “congratulations on being a homeowner,” so I told them to do one because I'm not a homeowner. Then the call just dropped.

Got a call from a woman with a Scottish accent, talking insanely fast. She claimed I'd filled out some survey a few weeks back (which caught me off guard, never did one) and somehow won £1000 to spend on kitchen or bedroom stuff. Didn’t quite get which company she was with. Told her I wasn’t bothered, but she just kept talking over me. Kept saying I wasn’t interested but she wouldn’t stop. Eventually she seemed to get the message, went “oh” and then just ended the call!

The caller immediately started saying I’d won £1000 for a kitchen after supposedly doing a survey. He kept calling me sir, apparently thinking he was speaking to a man, without giving me a chance to reply. He mentioned my husband had done the survey - which is impossible as he passed away a year and a half ago. When I questioned him about it, he just asked ‘what’s the issue?’ I replied ‘you tell me.’ Then he just hung up.
