Woke me up at 8.20 in the morning when I was in the middle of a much needed sleep-in. When I answered, there was just silence. Yeah, it is British Gas. I use Call Guardian on my phone and it blocks any calls that start with a robot voice, so I dont pick up those. I rang the number back and got an automated message saying theres a one hour wait to speak to someone.

Chill out everyone. It's just British Gas. Remember, you can't get scammed by simply answering a call and hearing what they say. Don’t do more than ask 'who's there' and then use a bit of common sense. My phone went off at 8:05 in the morning and it woke me up. I do shift work, so I couldn't answer quick enough since it only rings like 3 times. Sounds like a scam trying to get you to ring back. The voicemail said wait for a minute and had loads of American accents in it. I've blocked the number now. Who calls that early, even if it was British Gas? Totally annoying.

8 in the morning on a Saturday, had to drag myself out of bed. Didn’t answer the call cause I didn’t recognise the number. Some folks reckon it’s a scam, others say it’s legit British Gas. I’ve got an appointment with them next week anyway. If it’s real, why bother ringing so early on a Saturday?

Got a call on 08 Oct 2022 at 08:08 on my 88 year old sister’s landline in Cornwall. It was a recorded message saying it was British Gas and to press 1 or something… We just hung up straight away! Thought it was defo a scam! Checked on “Who-called.co.uk” and yep, had bad vibes about it. Proper dodgy!

Got a call at 08:03 this morning, which is a bank holiday because of H.M. The Queen’s funeral, so I doubt it was legit. I let it ring to voicemail but they didn’t leave anything. Funny enough, I’ve got a British Gas visit scheduled later in the week. Pretty sure it’s a scam tho.

Got a missed call from this number at 8.05 this morning. I’m also waiting on a British Gas engineer this week, so if this call is legit, BG really need to sort their communication out. When the engineer arrives, I’ll ask him if he knows anything about this number. If it’s not genuine, I’ll ask him to report it, and I’ll do the same myself.

Got a call from 03332029817 at about 8.03am on 15/08/22, no voicemail left though. The answerphone message just said "British Gas..Fudge" then cut off. Is this legit? I’ve got a gas engineer coming round on the 18/08/22. Wondering if their system got hacked or if they’re leaking customer info or something.

This morning, at the crack of dawn, I got a call from this number but they didn't bother leaving a message on my voicemail. Coincidentally, I noticed a previous commenter mentioned a similar experience. I've got an appointment scheduled with an engineer in just three days, so I'm planning to touch base with British Gas to find out if this number is legitimate. If it turns out not to be theirs, they could potentially be sharing phone numbers willy-nilly!
