Got a voicemail from the NHS about a health check invite. I couldn’t pick up when they rang though.

Got a call about a lung cancer screening, sounded like one of those dodgy medical scams to me. Definitely felt like a trick to get personal info. Watch out, folks!

Like folks here have said, they said it was from lung screening. They asked me to verify my name, date of birth and address, then told me they don't see any appointments booked! So what’s the point of calling me?! Got put on hold and I just ended the call. Never heard back, so I reckon it’s a scam. Bet they’re trying to open a bank account in my name or something dodgy. Really nasty to mess with people who are waiting for real health checks!

The NHS caller was really vague and then just dropped the call - definitely not someone I’d trust.

Someone called saying they were from the NHS lung screening service, but I got suspicious real quick. After I gave them my name and DOB, they just ended the call! Feels dodgy to me. If it is actually the NHS, they seriously need to fix how they do this because it just makes them look silly.

This is a real call from the NHS about lung cancer screening, so not some spam or scam. It’s legit.

This number was in the invite letter from the NHS for their lung screening programme. It's totally legit, so don't ignore it. They start by doing a phone screening which might lead to further tests - I've just gone through the full exam at my local centre. Definitely a proper NHS service.

Got a call from an unknown number today, I didn’t pick up at first. Later, I looked it up on this site and saw it was about lung screening, something I’ve dealt with before. So I called them back, and it turned out to be legit.

Got a ring from this number today early morning around 8.33am. It was some private outfit trying to sell me a lung screening test via phone. I was curious and asked how they planned to do it, even joked if I should hold my **** when coughing. The person on the other end, who had an Indian accent, just cut the call straight away. Might not be a total scam, but honestly, seems like a pointless use of everyone’s taxes.

I returned the call after receiving a message from the NHS. A woman picked up and inquired if she could assist me. When I mentioned that I was returning a call to this NHS number, she asked if I was from London, to which I replied no, I was from Cornwall. She then asked for a moment to gather my details, including my name, address, postcode, and whether I had ever smoked, while also suggesting I come in for some tests. I expressed my surprise, as I believed the call was regarding a hospital appointment and had nothing to do with lung issues. I informed her that I wasn’t able to attend the tests, and she stated that she would keep my name on the list for future reference.

I returned the call after receiving a message from the NHS, and a woman picked up. She asked how she could assist me, so I mentioned I was calling back regarding a specific NHS number. When she inquired if I was based in London, I clarified that I was from Cornwall. She quickly asked for a moment to search for my details, including my name, address, postcode, and whether I had ever smoked, plus if I was available to come in for some tests. I was under the impression this was concerning a hospital appointment, not a lung issue, and stated that I couldn't make it for any testing. She then mentioned she would keep my information on file for future reference.

I just let a call slip by and I'm left pondering who it was. It's still a bit of a mystery for me.

Got a call from the NHS about lung screening - they said it’s for folks over 55 and it’s run from a central hub. They asked the typical stuff like if I smoke or used to, how many a day, for how long, any history of bronchitis or chest infections, and if it runs in the family. They offered to set up a health check appointment with a nurse. Apparently, they have a mobile screening van, kind of like the breast or prostate checkups, and last Tuesday I spotted it parked outside our local Asda. Thought I’d share in case it’s useful for someone!

What I’d say is to get lung tests done via your GP. If you get calls from these people, try to get their full name, job title, company (especially if it’s not NHS), and their address. Then tell them you’ll pass this info on to your doctor to check it out. When my call cut off, I didn’t bother calling back and I think that’s probably best. Hope that’s of some use.

I feel it’s quite dodgy, to be honest. I rang my local doctor’s surgery first, given that the message claims it's linked with GPs. To my surprise, my medical records had absolutely no mention of any respiratory concerns, nor was I ever flagged for a follow-up. I had my suspicions, but I thought it best to verify it myself. So, I made sure to set a limit of zero spending on my EE account before dialling that number. Initially, I was greeted by an automated voice and then instructed to hang on whilst they connected me. Almost immediately, my zero spend limit kicked in and cut off the call-definitely saving me some cash in the process! I've come across reports of people being slapped with bills over £115 once the call is actually connected and they start answering queries. Yet, there are others claiming it’s completely above board. I'd strongly recommend placing a spend cap of zero before making that call, just to be safe!

Certainly not trustworthy. Initially, I reached out to my local doctor's surgery because the message claimed it was affiliated with healthcare professionals. To my surprise, there was absolutely nothing about any respiratory concerns in my medical history, nor had there ever been. I certainly wasn’t on any list for follow-ups - I had my suspicions but thought it prudent to verify for myself. So, I ensured I had a zero spending limit with EE before dialling the number. An automated message greeted me, followed by a prompt to hold for a connection. The moment I was about to be linked, the zero spend cap kicked in, abruptly terminating my call - probably saving me quite a bit of cash. I've seen reports of people racking up bills exceeding £115 after the call was connected and the questions were posed. Yet, there are mixed claims about its legitimacy. I’d strongly recommend setting a spending cap to zero before making any calls - just to play it safe.

I received a call claiming to be from Lung Health, and they insisted I mention ‘Wales’ when connected. However, a quick search online revealed that Wales doesn’t have any Lung Check service at this time. It feels suspicious, like one of those dodgy numbers that lead to exorbitant charges or hidden fees. I chose not to engage by calling back or clicking on any links. Best to stay safe!

I received a message from this number that directed me to bit.ly/elanctlhc. The link appears genuine; nevertheless, I'm pondering whether I ought to consult my GP about why I've been specifically targeted. It could simply be the NHS collecting information regarding 'lung' conditions in Lancashire and Cumbria for their own purposes-just another data collection exercise, really. If there's any concern regarding my health, my GP could easily arrange lung function tests at the practice and refer me for X-rays!

I got in touch with my GP's practice and they confirmed that I've been placed on the lung health monitoring list for folks over 55. Following that, I decided to give the number a ring, and I can say with confidence that it's a genuine survey. It’s definitely a beneficial check-up for one's health!
