These pesky cold callers seem to be everywhere these days, especially the ones who are up to no good. I've found it best to simply inform them that I won’t be engaging in any conversations, as I suspect they’re trying to use my details for some dodgy identity theft scheme or other. It’s a bit of a hassle, but better safe than sorry!

I eventually picked up the call - it was a lady with a rather heavy accent chatting away. Honestly, I just set the phone down and let her natter endlessly while I carried on with my tasks. After a good ten minutes, I returned to the phone and ended the call. So, whoever was on the other end just squandered their funds and didn’t disrupt my day at all.

Here’s my top tip that’s worked wonders: alert your genuine friends to give you a tinkle for the first few rings, then to hang up. When you eventually catch the tone, just dial 1471 to uncover who’s been trying to disturb your peace and return the call to the decent folks you actually know. For those unfamiliar numbers that seem to ring endlessly, jot them down and have a nosy on the internet to discover which dodgy lot has tried to interrupt your day and add unnecessary stress. It’s astonishing, but I reckon over 95% of my calls fall into this irritating category. I received a call on the 3rd of July at 16:39, and I am thoroughly exasperated with this persistent nuisance. This caller seems to make a habit of contacting me just as I'm about to sit down for my evening meal. I've requested numerous times for them to take my number out of their database, yet all they do is drone on, insisting I spare them a mere two minutes of my time. When I inquired for a contact number, they outright refused, which I found incredibly frustrating. They promised that if I just granted them two minutes, I'd be free from further calls. I made it crystal clear that I wanted nothing more to do with them, and promptly ended the conversation.

When you catch that sound, simply dial 1471 to find out who it was. This way, you can return the call to the decent folks in your life. As for those unfamiliar numbers where the ring seems endless, take note and pop it into Google to investigate which of life's nuisances has attempted to disrupt your peace. I'm finding that a whopping 95% or more of these calls fall into that annoying bracket. What I've done to deal with this number and some others is get myself one of those "smart call blocker" phones. I have a BT8500 model. It simply won't ring unless the number's saved in a list I make. It's been really effective, but you do have to add every number that you might want to answer. Honestly, it's worth it for the tranquillity you get!
