03331038170 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 03331038170 👆 is reported as a number mostly used by Lloyds Bank and its group (including Halifax and Bank of Scotland) to verify large cheque payments. Many users confirm it's a genuine security measure to confirm cheque details like amounts and payees before clearing. However, the calls often come without voicemail, leading some to suspect scams. There are mixed experiences; some report helpful, legitimate calls where no sensitive account info was requested, while others warn of scam attempts imitating the bank, sometimes involving high-pressure tactics or asking for sensitive details. Because of the similarity in approach, many remain cautious, especially with calls about old or unrelated accounts. Overall, the consensus is that it is primarily authentic but could be mimicked by fraudsters.

I got a text from Halifax Cheque Clearing, which is under Lloyd's Group. They say they’re checking on a big cheque going out of my account. The message said something like: A/C_XXXX XX/03/2026 We need to chat about cheque XXXXX dated XX/03/2026 and will ring you from 0333 103 8170 to sort it out. They asked me to pick up when they call so they can sort everything and make sure the cheque clears.

Got a call from Lloyds Bank’s cheque clearing team checking a couple of cheques I’d written for quite a bit of money. They asked me to confirm the cheque numbers, the amounts, and who they were made out to. It wasn’t a random call as it came just as the cheques were being presented to the bank. Kinda reassuring to know that Lloyds actually double-check stuff like this to keep our accounts secure. Made me feel like they’re looking out for me.

My phone and landline both rang one after the other but they didn’t leave any voicemail. I ended up ringing Lloyds on a different number and found out that the calls were actually from their security team. They were verifying a big cheque before it could be processed. Trouble is, they don’t leave voicemails for security reasons, and people like me usually ignore messages from unknown numbers! So, while it could be scammers pretending to use Lloyds’ number, it might also be a legit call. If you bank with Lloyds, it’s a good idea to ring them on a separate number to confirm.

This call was from Lloyds Bank. I’ve got some experience in banking, so I get why banks need to reach out to clients occasionally. However, in this instance, the call was made to an elderly family member who’s now stressed out thinking she was being targeted by scammers. Luckily, she was smart enough not to share any personal info. I’m not criticising the bank for checking the cheque, but honestly, they should find a safer way to do this - it could’ve been a proper scam very easily.
