I received a rather dubious call from someone claiming to be from eBay. Given my frequent dealings with them, I instantly recognised this number as fishy. The bloke on the other end inquired about my eBay user ID, and when I probed him for his name, he hastily replied “Gerry Brown”. I couldn’t help but point out his rather pronounced Indian accent, making it rather improbable that he was genuinely called Gerry Brown! I suggested he communicate with me via email instead. In all my years-over a decade as both a personal buyer and business seller-I’ve never once received an unsolicited call from eBay; their communications are strictly through eBay messages. The only time I reach out to them is when I pick up the phone myself! This number appears to be traced back to France while I’m firmly rooted in the UK-a classic case of a scammer if I ever encountered one!
