The number showed up as Argos, and a nice bloke with a British accent said he was ringing from Domestic & General regarding a Samsung hoover I’d bought from Argos that’s now out of warranty. He actually knew my full name and the exact date of purchase. I’m aware that Domestic & General sometimes ring up to offer extended warranties, so I’m kind of unsure. I turned down his offer, and when he asked why, I told him I didn’t see the point of getting insurance for a vacuum. I thanked him and then ended the call.

This number has rung me a few times, so I finally picked up to find out who's behind it. They were calling about a Samsung tablet I purchased back in October 2022. Since it’s now out of warranty, they wanted to discuss my "options." After reading other reviews, I reckoned they were just trying to push a warranty sale. Before they could go any further, I said no thanks and hung up, then blocked the number. What bothered me was the security questions they asked - probably given by Argos - like my first name plus the first line of my address and postcode.

Got a call claiming to be from Domestic and General, mentioning Argos. I've been getting calls from this number recently. I didn’t pick up because I think it’s related to an Argos order, probably from their insurance or a claims company. Since I always say no to extended warranties from Argos, I’m pretty sure they shouldn't be sharing my info with other companies like that. If you’re fed up too, best just block these annoying calls.

Can people pls stop jumping to the conclusion that a number is a scam just coz they don't recognise it? It’s so annoying how anyone unfamiliar with a number automatically thinks it’s a con. Actually, this is Dom and General insurance ringin’ up to offer coverage as the warranty on your stuff is nearly up. Often it’s something bought at Argos, but it could be from Sainsburys, eBay, Homebase or Habitat too. Yes, they’re pushing insurance and can be a bit pesty, but there’s nothing dodgy about the number itself. Definitely not a scam, just sales calls.
