It warned that turning off or rebooting could cause data loss or expose her identity. The warning banner said it was from Microsoft Support and urged her to ring 033 912 4906 right away to unlock her PC. I grabbed my laptop to look up official Microsoft contact details but couldn’t find any mention of this number anywhere. That was a clear sign it was a scam. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete shut down the computer properly, and everything worked fine when it turned back on. I’d suggest being really careful about clicking on random images on Facebook unless you’re certain they’re safe. Oddly enough, he said I’d called them, not the other way about, which seemed different from the usual scams.
