3 yearsMy wife innocently tapped on an image on Facebook that purported to show a seal resting on an iceberg. Almost instantly, her computer became unresponsive, bombarding her with alarming messages about supposed viruses and threats of data loss and identity fraud should she dare to turn it off. The prompts claimed to be from Microsoft Support, instructing her to ring 033 912 4906 without delay for a quick fix. Sensing something was amiss, I took to my laptop to search for any genuine Microsoft Support numbers and found it quite telling that legitimate contact details were not readily apparent. This only reinforced my suspicion that it was all a fraudulent scheme. With a quick press of Ctrl-Alt-Del, I managed to force her computer to reboot, and thankfully it returned to normal without any detectable issues. So here's a word of caution: steer clear of clicking on images on Facebook, unless you're completely sure where they come from. And do yourself a favour-avoid calling that number.FacebookMicrosoftCtrlAltDel3 yearsYesterday, my computer completely locked up, so I found myself dialling this number. A chap named Fabian Raphael claimed to be from Microsoft Support, and he was assisted by a lady called Ashley. They assured me they could sort out my issues. They managed to clear a substantial amount of unnecessary files, as my Norton was not doing nearly enough. It felt rather alarming, to say the least, as he had total access to my laptop. I must admit, I was rather sceptical about the whole situation. Strangely, he insisted that I had called him, rather than the other way around, which is unusual for these dodgy schemes. They quoted me £250 for a two-year service.Fabian RaphaelMicrosoft SupportAshleyNorton3 yearsI happened to stumble upon a particular image on Facebook and, before I knew it, was inundated with a flurry of messages akin to those others have mentioned-only mine were apparently linked to Apple! In a moment of clarity, I clicked the 'x' in the search bar, and poof! It vanished into thin air. I promptly powered down my tablet, took a breather for a bit, and then rebooted it. Voila! Everything was back to normal. Clearly, it was nothing but a financial con-and that's a valuable takeaway! Best to steer clear of Facebook images, regardless of how tempting they may appear!FacebookAppleSubmit Your Own Report (0330 912 4906)
