I’ve got one of those prepay gas meters and keep receiving texts saying I owe British Gas money. It’s like “Your bill is overdue, please pay immediately or get in touch. Fraud. This is the seventh one I've gotten in just over half a year. A few aren’t even sent to a specific person, and the rest definitely aren’t for me. I’ve never signed up for any energy plan with BG, even though they say it’s from them. The links they send are broken (don’t bother clicking, I reckon it’s a scam). When I try to mark it as spam on my phone, it says the number isn’t valid!!! They gave me a few different contact numbers, but there’s no way I’m calling any of them.

This isn't a scam, it’s actually British Gas. I ignored the emails after having a quick search on here and then ended up getting a letter from a debt collector. Apparently in October 2022 they updated their system and didn’t transfer my balance properly. I really hope folks calling this number a scam actually bothered to call the company themselves or used the official website/chat, instead of clicking any link in the email - which you should never do no matter what, even if the email looks legit. No clue if anyone actually did that though, because from what I see, this number was in an email from a proper company, i.e. British Gas. I’ve been getting emails from them for years from the same email address, always with my name, address, account number and the exact balance each time.
