I don't think this is a scam at all. Before the phone call, I actually got a text message telling me to expect the call. At first, it was an automated message, but since I’ve been waiting to see an ENT specialist, they confirmed it was about that waiting list. After answering a security question, which was just my birthdate, I was connected to someone from NHS referrals. So yeah, for sure not a scam in my experience.

Hospitals have started testing a new setup lately. First, they send a text telling u what number they'll call u from, then they actually ring about a week later. Their job is to check u still need the appointments since ur on a waiting list. They've had some glitches but r working through them. This has been launched in places like Blackburn, Blackpool, and Preston.

I’d been expecting a phone call from this number to confirm if I still required treatment. When it rang, I picked up but the call dropped straight away. Got a text from Blackpool teaching hospital saying they had an urgent message and would be calling me about an outpatient appointment I’m supposedly waiting for. Problem is, I’m not actually waiting for any treatment. When I rang the number back, it was one of those automated recordings asking if I wanted to continue, and I had to reply with yes or no. Bit confusing really.
