I went through quite a few of the comments here, and lots just write off the call as a scam. For me though, it was a proper call from a local Nationwide branch. The lady on the phone was someone I spoke to just last Friday, so I knew it was legit. After seeing some of the other comments, I’d recommend folks be cautious since scammers might fake this number. I’ve been reading some of the bad reviews here and honestly, I think the scammers might actually be working from inside the bank. I’m like everyone else, wondering why I keep getting calls on this number. I’m getting ready to report it to the police because I suspect someone inside the bank is stealing money. So, I got a call from Nationwide Bank the day after I’d put in a complaint. Weirdly, my phone showed the call as ‘possible spam’ which I think was just a mistake. They asked me some basic security stuff like my name, my address and my date of birth. Nothing too personal beyond that, which seemed fair enough. I got a call from 0330 460 5400 on the 27th of Nov 2024, supposedly the Compliance team at Nationwide Building Society. The number showed up flagged as a possible scam, but it was actually legit and really was Nationwide BS.

The call was from a nationwide place. They rang me about something to do with my account. I had already been told at the branch nearby the day before that they'd get in contact the next morning, which was today, and they reached me on that exact number.

Then today, they rang again and left a voicemail threatening me that if I didn’t go to the Building Society, my card would get blocked. I even went there earlier to check if they’d called me, but they said they hadn’t.

After doing a bit of digging and actually speaking to the person on the line, I found out it was from Nationwide. They confirmed everything was legit and there was no issue. I left something with just my name on it at a Nationwide branch, and within about 15 minutes, this number rang me up. They said I'd forgotten it there and that I could go pick it up either immediately or whenever the branch was open next. They didn’t mention money or any insurance stuff that would have made me suspicious and hang up. The call came so soon after I’d left, I can’t really see how it could be a scam about something I genuinely left behind, especially since there was no mention of paying anything.

Got a missed call from this number and I’m quite certain it’s Nationwide, but there was no voicemail left so I’m not going to ring back. I found this number online to see if Nationwide actually uses it, so it’s a bit of a Catch-22. This is definitely a scam using spoofed Nationwide numbers. I popped into my local branch to verify after getting a call from this number, but Nationwide told me there was no record of any calls made to me that day. They left a voicemail claiming to be “Karen” from the branch, but there’s no one called Karen working there at all. Don’t get tricked by this fake Nationwide caller - it’s just a scam!

Beware of this dodgy number (03304605400)! It's definitely a scam. I had three missed calls on my mobile and one that my partner took on our landline. They were claiming to be a representative named Mercedes from Nationwide Building Society, supposedly regarding my new account. The individual was rather evasive, only revealing her name and her affiliation with NBS, while flatly refusing to provide a number for me to ring back, insisting instead that I contact 'headquarters'. When I attempted to return the call using the number I got from 1471, all I got was a pre-recorded message apologising for not being able to take my call and promising to reach out again in the future. Just to clarify, Nationwide NEVER makes calls to customers’ homes and has certainly not tried to contact me today or at any other time. This is incredibly concerning since this person had my name, both phone numbers, and was aware that I had just opened an account. Stay alert and protect your details!
