I got a call from someone saying they install smart meters for different energy providers. They told me who they were and which company they worked for straight away, and they answered all my questions about fitting the meter. In the end, they actually advised me against getting it done because the 3G or 4G signals around here aren’t strong enough to make the meter work properly. They said there’ll be better technology launching in 2025 anyway. Really polite and helpful throughout the call.

Like many have pointed out, this number insists it's from my energy provider, supposedly reaching out to arrange the installation of a smart meter. To be fair, my actual supplier did send me a legitimate email indicating that I would receive a message about it. It arrived right on cue, and I simply replied with a "no" since I wasn't keen. Yet, the texts keep flooding in regarding the meter installation, so I've gone ahead and blocked the number and reported it as spam. Quite ridiculous, really!

SMS plc, the company hired to fit smart meters, are now sending texts saying people’s gas and electric meters are about to run out. This feels really dodgy and could scare vulnerable folks into thinking their supply will be stopped. It’s not true at all. No one has to get a smart meter if they don’t want to, it’s totally up to the individual. Properly disgraceful behaviour from them.

I received a rather dubious message. It said, "Hello, this is a text from your Energy Supplier regarding SMS. Your existing energy meter(s) are set to expire and need upgrading to the latest SMART meter version on the 6th of January, 2022." The message went on to tell me to reply with YES to confirm or CHANGE if I wanted a different date. It also provided a phone number, 03303323081, should I wish to discuss the upgrade. They even directed me to a link promoting the benefits of smart meters: https://www.smartenergygb.org/smart-meter-benefits. Honestly, this is all a load of nonsense-everyone knows meters don’t actually expire. Just typical scare tactics from a dodgy company. I'm steering clear of them with that kind of approach. To make things clear, I’ve had no prior engagement with these jokers and have reported them to my legitimate energy provider.
