Got a call from some smart meter installers today. If you read the Guardian and buy into all that peak demand pricing nonsense, you might find it useful. Me? I just hung up and blocked the number straight away.

I got a call from someone saying they install smart meters for different energy providers. They told me who they were and which company they worked for straight away, and they answered all my questions about fitting the meter. In the end, they actually advised me against getting it done because the 3G or 4G signals around here aren’t strong enough to make the meter work properly. They said there’ll be better technology launching in 2025 anyway. Really polite and helpful throughout the call.

Like some folks have mentioned, this number rings up pretending they're from my electricity company about putting in a smart meter. To be fair, I did get a proper email from my provider letting me know they'd text me about it. The message showed up when they said it would, but I replied "no" since I wasn't keen. Still, the texts about installing a meter keep coming through, so I've ended up blocking the number and marking it as spam. Ridiculous!

SMS plc, the company hired to fit smart meters, are now sending texts saying people’s gas and electric meters are about to run out. This feels really dodgy and could scare vulnerable folks into thinking their supply will be stopped. It’s not true at all. No one has to get a smart meter if they don’t want to, it’s totally up to the individual. Properly disgraceful behaviour from them.

So I just got this message saying it's from my energy provider about upgrading my meter to the newest smart one on 06/01/2022. They want me to reply YES to confirm or CHANGE to pick another date, and gave a phone number to ring if I want to chat about it. There’s also a link to some smart meter benefits info. But honestly, meters don’t actually expire like that, it’s just some dodgy scare tactic from this company. Never heard of them before or dealt with them in any way. I’ve already told my actual energy supplier about this nonsense. Definitely wouldn’t trust these jokers.

Had arranged a meeting with a firm saying they worked for Utility Warehouse - when I called them later, they told me that their engineers never get in touch with customers directly, only Utility Warehouse does. Plus, no one turned up for the appointment. Definitely a scam.

Out of the blue, I got a call from someone claiming they were from my energy company, trying to set up an appointment to install a smart meter. They’d actually left me a voicemail like that the day before too. I told them I wasn’t sure if I even wanted one, and they said they’d try me again in about a month.

I got a call that seemed to freeze just before I got put through to some operator. The person said they were from the power company, saying my meter needed to be replaced. I asked why I hadn’t gotten any letter or written notice about it, then they tried to get my email address. That was when I decided to just end the call.

I’ve been getting calls from this number, which I reckon is linked to some call centre in Bolton, around BL6 6SY. The company behind it is SMS Plc, and they deal with fixing, maintaining, and setting up gas and water systems. Mostly, these are unsolicited calls, but I suspect they might be connected to an annual service I had to delay with British Gas.
