I got a call from someone claiming to be from a fraud prevention team working with BT. I’d just switched to BT Basics that same week, so I thought it was legit. They told me BT was doing suspicious calls and I believed them. I ended up giving my card info, and they charged me £96.99 for some lifetime cover or something. Turns out it wasn’t from BT at all. Really dodgy!

My mum got a phone call from someone called 'Ryan' who said he could protect her from those annoying nuisance calls. It was obviously a con, but she ended up handing over £124.99. Bit of a shame there’s little chance we’ll get the cash back, but at least this might help others avoid the same trap.

Got a call from someone trying to sell me call protection, and weirdly enough, she already knew the first four digits of my bank account. That set off alarm bells. I told her I'd ring the customer service number she gave me later. Then she asked me to confirm the number, so I repeated it as 03302232809. She quickly corrected me, saying it was 03302232908. That just made me more wary, so I looked up the number online and sure enough, it turned out to be a total scam.

Today, I got a call from this number, with a bloke called Neil on the line. Shockingly, he already knew my password for the phone account and even the first four digits of my debit card. He said he could stop all those annoying nuisance calls for £1.99 a month, paid straight from my bank via direct debit. When he asked for the rest of my card details, something didn’t feel right. I told him I’d call back, which seemed to annoy him quite a bit, so I ended the call. Later, after a quick search online, I found out it’s a scam. I’ve had to cancel my debit card since, but really, it’s frightening how easily I could’ve been caught out and lost £96.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with CPS, said they could block cold calls for me for the next four years if I paid a one-time fee of £96. They promised to send the paperwork within a few days and said the calls would stop either in a few days or up to 28 days later. Sounds a bit dodgy to me.
