Somebody rang me up with a really odd accent, claiming to be from a recruitment company. They said they already had my details but needed my postcode. I wasn’t comfortable sharing that, so I declined. When I hung up, I attempted to dial the same number back but couldn’t get through at all.

Empire is a firm infamous in the translator and interpreter community for often dodging payments to freelancers. I foolishly reached out to them ages ago and quickly got a glimpse of their terrible management just while trying to sign up, which made me stop straight away. Any serious professional would avoid dealing with them. Every now and then, like every couple of years, they pop up again asking me to register and collaborate. I’m really annoyed since I’ve repeatedly asked them to delete my CV, but they still keep it on file.
