Just now my missus got a text with a one-time code for a payment over £800 supposedly to Airbnb. It included a number to call if we suspected any dodgy business. Rather than that, I contacted Airbnb’s Community Support folks directly. They took a screenshot of the message and said their Fraud Team will look into it now.

Got a call about some supposed Wayfair transaction for £542.50, and they said if it wasn’t me, I should ring their fraud department. This kind of stuff is just getting worse, why don’t the authorities shut these numbers down? It’s a nasty trick and people could easily fall for it.

Got a message like this today. Had a peek at my bank account and no payments being taken out, so definitely a scam or some kind of fake alert: Your One Time Passcode is 270796 for a payment of 542.50 to ROBERT DYAS - REF: HS384BS4. If you’re not behind this, ring the fraud team right away at 0330 190 1049.

This number sent me a message asking to verify some big purchase by sending a code. I phoned them back and it sounded like HSBC alright, but it wasn’t the emergency number they mentioned in the text. I don’t even have an active HSBC account, so I reckon this is definitely some kind of scam!
