I received a dodgy phone call regarding a warranty for my home. An Indian woman was on the line, purporting to represent some housing organisation. She bombarded me with questions, even probing for my banking information. It was pretty obvious this was a scam - the background noise was unmistakably that of a call centre overseas.

Im so glad i found the repair helpline after waiting ages (like 4 years) for my council to sort out the mould on my ceiling and the bath leaking. They rang me up and were really quick and polite. The solicitor got in touch the next day, and the council phoned back within 5 days. They fixed everything right on time and even gave me some compensation for the trouble. Really recommend using them!

But when I asked her last name, she didn’t want to tell me and got a bit annoyed. I pointed out her name didn’t quite fit her strong Indian accent, plus I heard Indian voices in the background. Yeah, had a pretty similar call. A guy with a heavy South African accent was talking in the background like he was in a noisy call centre. He gave my name, said he was from the council, and mentioned urgent repairs needed at my place. When I asked which agency was calling and who exactly he was, he just ignored me and kept pushing about the repairs. I told him I didn’t have any issues coming up and then he just ended the call.
