Got a letter saying someone was trying to get a credit card using my name. Rang the number they gave, but the person on the other end was really abrupt and kept cutting me off, wanting more personal info. I ended the call and got in touch with the FCA and Action Fraud, who told me the letter and company were definitely dodgy. The letter had the company address all wrong, with missing letters and weird spaces, plus my name was spelled differently in the heading compared to the salutation. Don’t bother phoning them - just report it to Action Fraud.

Also, they wanted original bank statements - who in their right mind would just send those to some company out of nowhere? I just threw the letter straight in the bin.

I got this letter telling me someone attempted to open an Aqua credit card with NewDay in my name. It’s definitely a scam, so don’t bother ringing them back. Most likely, your details were leaked on some website or during a job search, which is how they managed to get hold of your info.

I got a letter that said it was from CIFAS saying someone tried to get credit using my name, but the name was all wrong so I got suspicious. I checked the number online and loads of people said it was a scam. Don’t ring them back. If you’re worried about fraud, it’s better to get in touch with CIFAS or Citizens Advice yourself.

Fake! Got a letter from Newday saying someone applied for an Aqua credit card pretending to be me. They asked me to ring this number and offered to “help” but only if I sent my bank statements, passport, and two proofs of address. Basically asking for all the info needed to get a credit card or even a job. Seems dodgy to me.

Got a letter with this phone number saying someone applied for a credit card with Fluid Credit using my details. I’m always careful about calling numbers or clicking links from random letters, so I checked it out. Turns out the number on the letter isn’t the same as the one on their official website. Thankfully, I came across this page and it made me realise straight away it’s a scam. Definitely don’t call that number!

An older family member got a dodgy letter claiming to be from Newday, but the number they had doesn’t match the real company’s. Total scam, don’t waste your time with it. Today I got a letter from newday fraud dept sent to my house but it wasn’t addressed to me, just my address. At first I was quite stressed but then decided to look up the phone number on the letter, glad I did. Turns out it’s a scam, seems like they’re sending these out to random locations. Best thing is dont bother ringing them, just bin it.

After reading all the worries here, I decided to dig a bit deeper myself.

I rang up NewDay (Aqua) using the customer service contact found on their official website. They verified the details mentioned in the letter and explained that the phone number is actually a dedicated Fraud Customer Line, designed to connect you directly to their Fraud team.

The confusing bit might be that this firm operates under several different names like Aqua, NewDay, Marbles, and Pulse - with NewDay being the main company in charge.

I rang the number they gave and spoke to a man who I told that I hadn’t applied for anything.

Apparently, the application was submitted on 12th October this year.
