My mum got a call saying that someone was attempting to make purchases with her card miles away. We’re still trying to get through to our bank to check if it’s legit or just a scam. The caller asked for various numbers off the card, which seemed a bit sketchy. I’d recommend freezing your card if possible and contacting your bank directly to be safe.

I've seen this scam pop up lots of times on different TV shows about fraud over the years. It's a pity that more folks still don't know how to deal with it. There are some comments here that give great advice on what to say if your bank suddenly gets in touch. Loads of people just don’t know the right steps to take, which is exactly what the scammers want!

Got a call from some bloke saying he was Michael from the RBS fraud dept. He spoke with a proper English accent and said there was some dodgy transaction on my account. While he was on the phone, he tried logging into my telephone banking. Soon after, I got a real security alert from RBS. Then this guy asked for bits of my password to ‘check’ if I was legit, but it felt like he was just trying to nick money from my account. Total scam.

Not sure if it was a scam but it defo wasn’t an Indian bloke, sounded like a white guy from the UK. Just be careful if you get a call from this number. If you wanna ring it back and annoy them, that’s up to you. Honestly, scammers shouldn’t be allowed to get away with anything.

It was obviously a con. They said they were from my bank, but I know my bank always uses a secure messaging app to get in touch. So yeah, nice try to the scammer but I wasn’t falling for it. Told them a few things I shouldn’t have, then ended the call and blocked the number.

Got a call saying Tesco was holding some money for me and to ring them back. Thing is, I don’t even have Tesco Mobile or any connection to them, so it seemed fishy. Had a quick look here and yep, it looks like a scam number. Watch out for it!

Got a call claiming to be from the RBS fraud department about a suspicious payment. They never gave any proof they were legitimate but sounded like they had a script to follow. I think they tried to get me to give them my cash access PIN from my banking app, but as soon as I said I wouldn’t share anything when they were guiding me to that screen, they quickly said they wouldn’t ask for that and ended the call politely. The only info they seemed to have was my full name and my phone number.
