About 11 posts back there’s a write-up explaining how to handle scam emails. The police actually have a special team inside the National Cyber Security Centre that focuses only on scam emails. They really WANT people to send these emails to them.

I got a call supposedly from Nationwide saying they were arranging a new direct debit for a dental clinic in Northampton. They told me to call a number if I hadn’t authorised it. Obviously I hadn’t! Don’t bother calling back, it’s definitely a scam.

Down below, folks have shared step by step on how to report scammy emails. Someone mentioned they sent it over to the NCSC but since these crooks keep switching their email IDs, it’s best to flag every single suspicious email you get. Also, use the phishing report option - it’s under the three dots in the top right corner of the email. Doing this should help spread the word and get those scam emails blocked all over the place.

Just got an email claiming a new direct debit was arranged from Nationwide, with a number to ring about it: 03301332350. Honestly, only ring the phone number that's on the back of your bank card to be safe.

Got an email claiming to be from Nationwide saying a direct debit of £799.99 was arranged for a dentist in Northampton. They wanted me to ring this number. Ended up blocking it and reporting it to Nationwide. Also forwarded the details to [email protected] for them to look into.

Got an email from Nationwide, which I’ve never dealt with, saying there was a direct debit taken from my account on July 2nd for some dental clinic in Northampton. They gave this phone number to call if you don’t know about the payment. I saw other folks saying the same thing and decided to just block the number and delete the message.

Just like a few others mentioned, I got an email supposedly from Nationwide about an £800 direct debit for some dentist bill. The email ended up in my spam folder though, and I didn’t bother calling the number on there like it said.

Got a call from 03301332350 claiming to be Santias Group UK, saying I'd set up a direct debit. They also sent an email about it. They told me to call that number if there was an issue - but don't! Instead, I rang my bank directly using their official number to sort it. Turns out, it was a scam, so make sure you contact your bank, not the number they give you. From someone with Nationwide.

Dealing with scam emails is pretty straightforward. Just forward the suspicious message to '[email protected]', it will take you to the NCSC’s scam reporting page, which has all the details you need to report this kind of fraud. The NCSC’s main site can be a bit tricky to find this info on through the homepage. Don’t forget to also use the ‘report phishing’ option in your email (usually under the three dots menu) - this helps flag the scammer’s address as spam across lots of email providers.

Just blocking and deleting scam calls or emails really doesn't solve the problem. I saw a post a bit lower down (like 3 comments below) that explains in detail how to handle and get rid of every kind of scam email. Plus, our cyber crime folks keep track of these frauds. The National Cyber Security Centre actually has a dedicated team that specialise in dealing with scam emails all day. Worth having a look at their advice, I’ve put the info further down.
