Beware of this dodgy outfit masquerading as O2! I've reported their phone number to the authorities, but it seems O2 is utterly unresponsive and failing to provide the verification code they’ve requested. What's more, they'll place an order for a phone under your name, only to claim they've sent the wrong one. Next thing you know, they state, “We’ll send you a prepaid bag for its return.” Just like that, the phone disappears, and now O2 is chasing you for the payment. Stay vigilant!

Had a bloke from India ring me up, asking which phone I used, like was it an iPhone, Samsung or HTC. Told him none of the above (which obviously wasn’t true) coz I actually do have a phone like that. He got proper annoyed when I kept saying I don’t have a mobile at all.

I pretended to go with it, and they sent me some kind of authorisation code via text saying not to give it to any o2 folks, but he was begging me to share it over the phone. Also, he couldn’t tell me who the account was in. When I switched to speaking Hindi, he suddenly fell silent. Hung up right away. Total scam, avoid it.

If you use an iPhone, just switch on “Silence Unknown Callers” under Settings > Phone. That way, any calls from numbers you don’t know won’t bother you right away. You can look up the number later when you have time, to figure out if it’s legit or a scam. This number tried to call me yesterday (I didn’t even hear it because it was silenced). I looked it up here today, worked out it was dodgy, and blocked it. Sorted!

If you’re using an iPhone, just go into Settings, then Phone, and switch on “Silence Unknown Callers.” That way, you won’t get disturbed by numbers you don’t know. You can always look up any missed calls later to see if they’re real or just a scam. This number apparently tried calling me yesterday, but my phone never even rang. I looked it up today on this site, saw it was dodgy, and blocked it straight away. Sorted!

Got a call from, I think, ‘mobile city’ trying to sell me a discount on phones and asked which phone I use. That’s the main bit I caught, the connection was really bad. Seems like I've encountered a potential scammer. They rang me up posing as O2 (which I’m certainly not a customer of) and started prattling on about some exclusive offers I was eligible for. They claimed they would send me a one-off passcode to access my account. I received a text that appeared to be from O2, complete with the passcode. Quite the smooth operator, I must say-didn’t even flinch when I cheekily introduced myself as Detective Sergeant Steven Johns (which, for the record, isn’t my name!). The official O2 site clearly cautions against these bogus "one-time pass codes" and states that they would never go down that route. Long story short, it’s definitely a scam, though they’ve clearly got some finesse!
