Beware of a scam where people pretend to be from O2. They give you a number that looks like it’s O2’s, but it’s not. I passed the case to the police and tried contacting O2, but they didn’t respond or provide the verification code the scammers asked for. The trick is they’ll place an order for a phone under your name and then claim it’s the wrong item. They tell you to send it back using a "pre-paid" bag they provide - and just like that, the phone disappears. In the end, O2 expects you to pay for it. Watch out for this!

Had a bloke from India ring me up, asking which phone I used, like was it an iPhone, Samsung or HTC. Told him none of the above (which obviously wasn’t true) coz I actually do have a phone like that. He got proper annoyed when I kept saying I don’t have a mobile at all.

I pretended to go with it, and they sent me some kind of authorisation code via text saying not to give it to any o2 folks, but he was begging me to share it over the phone. Also, he couldn’t tell me who the account was in. When I switched to speaking Hindi, he suddenly fell silent. Hung up right away. Total scam, avoid it.

If you use an iPhone, just switch on “Silence Unknown Callers” under Settings > Phone. That way, any calls from numbers you don’t know won’t bother you right away. You can look up the number later when you have time, to figure out if it’s legit or a scam. This number tried to call me yesterday (I didn’t even hear it because it was silenced). I looked it up here today, worked out it was dodgy, and blocked it. Sorted!

If you’re using an iPhone, just go into Settings, then Phone, and switch on “Silence Unknown Callers.” That way, you won’t get disturbed by numbers you don’t know. You can always look up any missed calls later to see if they’re real or just a scam. This number apparently tried calling me yesterday, but my phone never even rang. I looked it up today on this site, saw it was dodgy, and blocked it straight away. Sorted!

My mum keeps getting calls on her mobile from this number and it’s proper frustrating. I heard that when they ring, you get charged too, which is just rubbish. Total pain, honestly.

Got a call from, I think, ‘mobile city’ trying to sell me a discount on phones and asked which phone I use. That’s the main bit I caught, the connection was really bad. I told them I wasn’t looking for a new phone, they were pretty polite and said no worries before ending the call. Still, I’ve blocked the number since it was a cold call anyway.

Told me to ring back on 02045710201. I knew straight away it was dodgy, so I left him waiting on the line for nearly ten minutes. Got a call from someone claiming to be from O2, even though I’m not with them. They tried to convince me I was eligible for special deals and said they’d text me a one-time passcode to check my account. Then I got a message that looked like it came from O2 with a code and everything. I even told them my name was Detective Sergeant Steven Johns (which it definitely isn’t) but they weren’t fazed at all. According to O2’s official site, they never send these one-time codes out like this, so it’s definitely a scam. Pretty smart tactic though!
