Normally Shell Broadband’s number I get calls from ends with 5801. But today I got a voicemail asking me to call back on a number finishing 5800. I didn’t ring back cos they said “Hi Mr David” instead of using my last name. I’d also mentioned before that my landline was out of order and they’re sending someone Wednesday, so I’m kinda unsure if this is legit or just a scam.

I suspect these scammers may be utilising a range of similar numbers, as I've received quite a few calls recently that have an echo of one another. A couple of them were purporting to be from Shell Energy and pushing me towards a Smart Meter - something I'm well aware isn't mandatory. Then there were others warning me about loft insulation supposedly damaging my roof, which is utter nonsense. This particular kind of scam rings a bell from years back. It genuinely makes me wonder if employees at these large corporations occasionally pass on customer details to their deceitful acquaintances, perhaps for a bit of extra cash, or if they are even solicited to do so. It's quite alarming how often these cons seem to emerge under the guise of well-known firms like Amazon.

Been getting calls from this number a few times now, with a guy speaking with an Indian accent saying I’m owed money. Thing is, I don’t recall ever dealing with Shell Energy before. When I blocked the call, I got an email that looked proper, addressed to me with both my first and last name. I replied asking if they could prove they weren’t scammers by giving me my full address, and they actually did that in their reply. After that, I looked up Shell Energy’s official customer service number online and gave them a ring. They confirmed it was legit and that they do owe me £87.25.

Received a call from this number where a lady claimed to be an advisor from Shell Broadband. I’ve been having issues with my landline, but she immediately started asking if I was the account holder and then wanted my full name. After that, she asked for my complete address and date of birth. 6/10/22 - 4.29pm I ignored the call thinking it was spam or a scam. From what I’ve read, it seems to be a legit Shell Energy Broadband Customer Services call, though. Without something in writing, it’s hard to show what was said later, and with the awful customer service I’ve had from Shell Energy Broadband so far, I reckon I might need that proof.

My frail elderly neighbour, who struggles to get around, was quite shaken by a phone call from someone alleging that she had a gas leak in her home. Concerned for her safety, I had to disturb another very senior neighbour to fetch the key to the home of the lady with disabilities. Upon inspecting her kitchen’s gas hobs, I found no evidence of a leak-thankfully, there was no acrid smell. It all felt rather dodgy to me, though I couldn’t shake the feeling that the poor lady was left quite anxious for a while.
