I got a call from some driveway firm "near me" saying they'd give a discount if I put up a sign and gave a review. The whole thing was obviously recorded with a robotic reply, and it really reminded me of "Chris, my local energy advisor" who kept ringing before! Tried asking where exactly they were working, but the automated voice just repeated twice, something like "yes, we have an engineer around your location." Felt like a waste of their time, but hopefully I messed up their system a bit and took up some of their resources for a few mins.

Like some others have said here, this number is definitely a scammer. I’ve blocked it now but what works for me is letting it ring just once and then going straight to voicemail. That way, I get a moment to look them up online before deciding whether to bother answering. Plus, if they don’t bother leaving a message, it’s a pretty clear sign it’s dodgy!

I managed to catch the voicemail, but I was met with a barrage of thick accents spoken at breakneck speed-truly a bafflement to comprehend. The initial message was a woman's voice, swiftly followed by a man, yet there was something eerily similar about the two. Out of ten calls, I’d reckon at least nine left me completely bewildered by their gibberish. I’m resolved to make a call from a public phone box, despite the expense, just to see if it’s any clearer. My folks were Irish immigrants, and I’ve never had trouble understanding the likes of Geordie or Scots, but this feels rather different. I hope I'm just being overly cautious regarding all this. I had a chap named John ring me up from some driveway firm, claiming they’d been operating out of Southampton but had gone nationwide now. I informed him that I don't actually have a driveway, then promptly ended the call and blocked the number.

Claimed to be representing 'The Driveway Centre' and stated he was in the neighbourhood seeking show homes that could benefit from a tempting 25% discount on driveways for being a showcase property. It was the second time he’d called me. Quite pushy, really. I managed to brush him off.
