Thank goodness! Just saw in the newspapers that unless you've given explicit permission, cold calling by companies is actually illegal now. Sounds great but there's zero info on who to report these nuisances to or how to blacklist them. The telephone preference service is meant to keep scammers at bay, but we all know how useless that is. Would be so much better if they teamed up with this brilliant site - I get way more helpful tips and reassurance from people here than from any secretive, useless telecom provider! I rang Homeserve as I was actually waiting for a call from them, but the number I got didn’t look familiar at all. Turns out, it’s not from Homeserve at all - probably a scam. If anyone needs to get hold of Homeserve, the right number is 0800 247 999. What concerned me is that when you search on Google, the scam number comes up in ads right at the top. I told Homeserve about this and they’re working on sorting it out. Hopefully this helps someone else out.

Back in December, I flagged this number after getting a text on my Virgin Mobile about a £4.50 charge for something called the Big Game Hub or similar. I called Virgin Customer Service and they said it was up to me to deal with it. After I saw the reviews, I rang them a second time and asked if they could block Premium Rate numbers. Got a call from Homeserve asking why I stopped the payment. I explained it was because I'd got a new boiler and didn’t need the cover anymore, like they told me to just leave it. The lady sorted out cancelling my policy straight away, sounded local and was able to see my account, so I reckon it’s legit to pick up these calls.

They’ve been ringing me non stop for days! I normally don’t pick up unless I know the number, but I finally got fed up and answered to tell them to stop. As soon as I did, they just hung up! Then they had the cheek to ring back 5 minutes later! I didn’t pick up again, but later that day, they called once more! Definitely going to block this number now, it’s just plain harassment!

Got a call from someone saying they were with Anglia Water. They quickly tried to pitch some insurance to me. I told them to remove me from their call list and then ended the call. The number is blocked now.

It's utterly baffling how these annoying pests just won't take a hint and leave people alone! I keep blocking their number, yet somehow they manage to ring me up again. It’s really infuriating! Honestly, I’m not going to engage with them; I’d rather just keep shutting them down and enjoy a bit of peace.
