Got a call from a guy called Mike saying he’s from the housing repair crew because I reported some damp and mould issues to my housing officer. Asked him what company he worked for and he just said “local council” but wouldn’t give a full name or any proper details. Like someone else pointed out here, it does make you think. I told my housing officer about the damp, but I don’t live in a council flat and have never reached out to the council about it. Very suspicious.

This guy spoke all posh and polite, asked me how I was doing. I cheekily asked if he was some kind of scammer. There was a big silence, then I told him he’d just confirmed it. Then out of nowhere, he just hung up on me! Normally I mess about and give them daft answers, but today I just had no energy for it.

After a bit of sleuthing, it turns out they are linked to a business named Wavecrest Limited. A quick peek on Companies House revealed that Wavecrest Limited is supposedly a telecommunications firm, which has nothing to do with the number that called me. I’m convinced this is a dodgy operation of some kind. I did try to ring them back, but my phone promptly disconnected the call. Hope others can steer clear of these muppets!
