On 7th March 2025, got a letter from some West Yorkshire Collections and Enforcement lot. It was super threatening, saying I owe £190 and that I missed payments or something. They even mentioned I could go to prison! Honestly, I haven’t got a clue what they’re talking about. I checked the phone number they gave, and it’s definitely linked to a scam. These scammers really need to be stopped, they’re awful people. The letter looked legit but it’s just a nasty trick.

Got a letter that looks like it's from the Greater Manchester Accounts and Enforcement Unit. It's called a Further Steps Notice and demands payment BUT doesn’t say what for? The tone’s really threatening, even mentions possible jail time?? They want me to pay using this number 0300 790 9901. I got a letter here in London from HMCTS Kent Surrey and Essex Enforcement Business Centre. It came on really high quality 180g proper office paper with a neat envelope. I have no idea what this is about as I don't have any earlier record of it. The letter says I owe £146 and explains what could happen if I don’t pay. It also has info on how to pay the fine and a phone number 0300 790 9901 to call.

Got an email about some penalty points and a big fine, which at first seemed pretty real since I’m actually waiting to hear about a driving offence. It appears that this number claims to belong to HMRC, but as I went through the call, they asked for my name, which suggests they have no idea who they're actually speaking to - definitely a scam in my books. It's rather puzzling how they manage to disguise their identity whilst using a genuine HMRC contact number. When I tried to call back, I ended up in the queue for the real HMRC. Anyway, the woman on the line inquired if I was someone named “so-and-so” and then proceeded to ask for my personal details (a classic scam tactic, if you ask me). When I firmly stated that I wasn’t going to give any information over the phone, she abruptly ended the conversation. So here are my two golden rules: Rule 1: If someone rings you asking for your personal details, don't hesitate to tell them to bog off. Rule 2: If you receive an email requesting your information, once again, tell them to do one.

Got a missed call from this number earlier. I looked it up and it said it’s linked to the HMRC court fines. Was pretty confused since it seemed legit. Checked this site and saw loads of people moaning about getting calls from it too.

Some bloke with an Indian accent called me and said he was police. They asked how much money I had in my account, so I told them about my bank and savings. Then they said I’d get arrested if I went to the local cops. The number showed as a government line, so it seemed pretty convincing.

Got a call from some Indian bloke on 03007909901 claiming he's sorting out my unpaid taxes from the last 3 years. He threatened that if I don’t sort it, the police will get involved. What annoyed me the most was when he said the number's listed on a government website, like somehow that makes it legit. But honestly, I never got any emails or letters about this supposed issue, so yeah, screw them.

I got a call for the first time from 07853443796, some guy with an Indian accent pretending to be from HMRC. He said there was an issue with my tax and told me to open a browser online, but I figured it was a scam and hung up straight away. Then, the same bloke rang me from 03007909901 and was really pushy, asking why I'd ended the call earlier and started getting quite rude. Watch out for these scammers!

Got a call from 07615 152226, guy said I'd got a tax overpayment and it was done deliberately by me. He said there was gonna be an arrest warrant for me any minute now. Then he started pressuring me to pay about £800 or get a top lawyer, or else if found guilty I'd be stuck with £29,000 court fees. I just hung up. Then he rang back from 0300 790 9901, got really annoyed that I ended it. The caller was an Indian bloke calling himself Officer Dalton Davis, sounded quite convincing. After that he phoned again from 07786 462898. I've blocked all these numbers now.

I got a call from 02037273409, some bloke with an Indian accent claiming to be from HMRC, saying I haven’t paid my taxes and threatened court for 7 months plus arrest. I told him I’d need to check with my accountant first before answering anything. Then I said I was googling his number, and the call just went dead. I blocked it. Then he rang me back on 03007909901, I picked up and he sounded annoyed, so I hung up. After that, I had two more missed calls from that number, so I blocked it too. Then I got another missed call from 02037250012.

Hahaha, so this bloke Gupta from HMRC totally confirmed my info, even though I gave him a fake name and postcode. Now I’m just sitting here waiting for the HMRC big guys to show up and smash my door in. But hey, will I lose sleep over it? Not a chance!

This number rang my mum on her mobile and after she hung up (she’s not great with English, mind you), they called back. When she picked up, the person said “how can I help you” which seemed odd since they were the ones who called her first. Mum pointed that out, and then they went on about having her info and needing her to verify it. Part 1

Had the exact same thing happen with the number 0785609597. Two Indian blokes called me, started threatening about fines and getting arrested. They wanted my name and address. I knew it sounded dodgy so I just ended the call. Then they tried ringing again from 03007909901 and 07875438067, but I ignored it.

I got a call from a bloke claiming to be from HMRC saying there was a warrant out for my arrest in 15 days if I didn’t pay some overdue tax of £989. He rattled off an arrest warrant number, his ID, and a reference code. When I started questioning him, he said he’d have to put me through to a supervisor, who turned out to be an Indian woman. She was really pushy about me paying up, so I just hung up. She rang back loads of times, sounding pretty annoyed about it. What really gets me is how they managed to spoof the same phone number as Hendon Magistrates' Court. Quite clever, if sinister.

Few days back, I received a call from a polite Indian gentleman saying he was with HMRC. Since I heard loads about these scam calls, I decided to mess with him and told him I was part of the fraud squad at the Met Police, which really annoyed him and he started threatening I’d get arrested. Now, I’ve even got a letter from the courts using the same number demanding payment or else I’ll be arrested. The letter looks pretty genuine though. I’m planning to ring the courts first thing in the morning to make sure it’s legit. Will post an update soon.
