Got a call from some guy with a weird accent rambling on about "accident help" or something. Didn't sound right at all, so I just went ahead and BLOCKED the number. Definitely seemed dodgy.

They called but I left it unanswered as I didn’t know the number, even though I’ve had dealings with TV licensing before. No voicemail was left either.

Back in early September, I got a call just like that one. Lucky for me, my son sorts out my TV licence payments.

This isnt a scam, my father-in-law got the exact same letter in the post. It’s legit. There’s a detailed FAQ about it on the tv licensing site; (I think the link is something like: tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/faq317). They even give two numbers to call there: 0300 790 6146 and 0300 790 6070.

my mum got a letter telling her to phone this number about an issue with her direct debit. She didnt call that number though, instead she rang them on another line and they told her there was no problem with the direct debit at all and they never sent her any letter like that.

Honestly, this sounds like one of those real TV licence calls. They usually ring you up either when you need to renew or if a payment hasn't gone through.

I just got a letter from TV licensing claiming there’s an issue with my direct debit and they want me to send back a form with my bank info. I had a look at my account on their official site and everything’s fine. I also rang some numbers but none matched the one on the letter. Feels like a really smart scam if you ask me. Just be careful and always verify any requests for your bank details before replying.

So glad I found this website! We just got a letter with a direct debit form saying there was an issue and we needed to set up a new one. Lucky for me, I searched their number here first. Big thanks to everyone who left comments before - feels good knowing I’m not about to get caught out by some scam. Really grateful for this community!

Just to add on from what I said earlier, I got a letter back with an address that finished as darlington di981an, but when I checked the official site it shows it as di981tl. Hopefully that clears things up a bit.

I just got a letter that looks like it's from TV Licensing, but it claims there's an issue with my direct debit. The return address was from Darlington and it came with a prepaid envelope. Don't be fooled by this scam! The phone number on it was 0300 790 6146.

I just got a letter claiming to be from the TV licensing department saying there's an issue with my direct debit. It had a different phone number on it, 03007906146. I tried ringing the real number, but it seems they don’t answer on weekends. The letter did have my actual TV licence number though, which made me suspicious. I've had a couple of dodgy emails over the past few months, but this is the very first time I’ve had a letter like this. I’m planning to get in touch with the licensing office next week to check what's going on.
