Somebody rang me supposedly from HMRC, threatening to get an arrest warrant out for me. Honestly, the police should really step in and sort these numbers out!

I got a call from a robotic voice claiming to be HMRC. It warned me it was about some fraud case and told me to hit 1 to chat with an agent. According to the message, if I didn’t respond, they said I'd be arrested straight away.

This number called my mum, who’s quite old, telling her she owed money and needed to pay up. Worried, she phoned back and ended up sharing her bank details. She’s now really scared she’s been conned. She’s been down to her bank to stop any dodgy transactions but she’s absolutely shaken. Definitely one of those HMRC scam calls!

It’s just another dodgy call pretending to be from HMRC with one of those recorded messages. I bet they’re faking the number and using it to trick people into giving up their bank details. If they manage to fool even one person, they could clean out their whole account and walk away with a nice payday! We all know these scams well enough, but what about older folk or anyone who might not spot it so easily? That’s the worrying bit.
