If you get a code for the gateway, it’s definitely from HMRC. If it’s not really HMRC, the code won’t actually work on the gateway!

I really don't want any of these cold calls! I bet this number's some kind of scam!

Got a call at 11:11 pm while I was asleep. They left a voicemail about some “access code.” Bit worrying as the only HMRC access codes I get are for work login stuff. From what I remember, the number’s normally repeated, but this automated message told me to press 1. I reckon it’s a scam since I definitely didn’t ask for any code in the middle of the night.

It's HMRC calling, that automated voice thing telling you your 7 day code to get into your tax account.

Got a call from what seemed like HMRC, saying it was for a secure login to their site. They gave me a 6-digit code but never asked for any personal info. So if you get a ring from this number, think: have I just tried logging into Government Gateway for my tax or pension info? If the answer’s no and this call comes from nowhere, it’s definitely a scam!

Got a voicemail saying there was some "HMRC access code" and to hit 1 if I wanted it repeated. I never asked for any access code, and from my experience with government gateway stuff, they dont usually tell you to press 1 for a repeat, so I'm pretty sure this is just a scam.

The Government Gateway Code is what you use to log into your account. You have to ask for it to get access.

This is an official HMRC number that sends automatic replies when you ask for codes to enter government sites. Although someone could spoof the call, it’s only risky if you haven’t actually been in touch with a government agency yourself. The call isn’t from a real person, so if someone talks to you directly when you pick up, it could be dodgy.

Watch out. This is an actual HMRC Gateway number. HOWEVER!!! Scammers have figured out how to fake (clone/copy) these real numbers to trick people. Honestly, the best defence against these fraudsters is just good old fashioned 'common sense' when picking up calls.

They claim to be NHS GATEWAY but ring super early when no ones open saying you’ve got 15 mins to input a code online. The site isn’t legit, something fishy going on. It’s definitely a scam! Don’t share any info, just hang up, block and report them!

Got a message saying legal steps were about to be taken over unpaid taxes and to press 5 to talk to the case manager. I just looked up HMRC myself and there’s nothing owed at all. This is the third time I've had one of these messages left on my voicemail.

This is a real HMRC automated call for a second layer of verification when signing into an account. You should only get calls from this number if you're an authorised user trying to log in.

Got a call today around 13:12, and when i answered, the person read out some sort of access code then told me to press 1 or the code would vanish in an hour. Since my number’s fairly new and ex directory, and i have no dealings with HMRC, I’m pretty sure it was a scam.

Upon attempting to access the Government Gateway, you'll receive a unique access code that you must input to proceed with your login. This serves as a vital element of their security protocols. Without this code, you won't be able to gain entry to the site.

I just had a rather puzzling phone call from this number, during which they mentioned a Gateway access code that I definitely didn’t ask for. It’s left me feeling quite anxious about why on earth I got this code in the first place. Could it be a scam, or are they attempting to gain entry into my account? I'm honestly not sure what to make of it.

03004005421 kept ringing me like 8 times in a single day but never left a voicemail. When i tried to call back, the message said it’s a one-way number and i couldn’t get through. I’m not sure if it’s actually HMRC, becasue ive been trying nonstop to reach someone at HMRC with no luck at all.
